Sorry if this question seems dumb...

My grandson want's the osmo but I'm unsure about connecting it to his phone. Will using the phone as the monitor use our phones data plan? I can't really afford to go up to the next plan, so he might not be getting one.

If, anyone can help me on this, I'd greatly appreciate it greatly.

No, it uses a wifi connection which gives you about 75 foot range.

When powering on the Osmo, the Osmo itself will send the Osmo WiFi signal, you can check it out by refreshing the LAN pool in your Phone. Up to now, the Osmo can only be connected to one mobile device one time within an range of around 25 meters.
