Thank you. It's the Phantom 4 camera for the landscape half of the panorama and a Nikon D810 for the sky half.

Very cool, great shot!

What is the approach for the shy shot with the d810? What focal length do you use and why? The P4 is 20mm in 35mm terms, but the D810 is shooting from a different position and has massivelt different resolution. Can you get away with not being directly underneath the drone?

Do you lock the exposure or allow the drone camera to change as it goes round? Which tends to work better?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you

I use a Nikon 10.5mm fisheye on the D810 and shoot a 7 or 8 image panorama of the sky. As a photographer, the D810 my main camera, has tons of dynamic range and resolution and in combination with the fisheye, it gives me good resolution in the upper hemisphere of the panorama.

It doesn't have to be shot under the drone but I usually do as I'm taking off from a clear area and that affords a clear skyline too

I manually expose each drone pic to minimise blown highlights and generally "expose to the right" to protect shadows too. The exposure is then normalised whilst processing the raw images and then the stitcher will further compensate for minor exposure changes between images.

There's a lot going on

Cool, cheers for the reply. I have a D800, so appreciate the quality of the files it produces and they certianly hold up well with heavy processing. I have a 14-24mm 2.8 lens so will give it a try with that.

I was mildy impressed with how well PTGUI handled the mixture of auto exposed shots (using the pano option in Litchi) I put through it on my first attempt yesterday, and they were straight off the card.

It is an amazing thing we can do with these drones and technology!

The D800 series cameras are amazing. Just wish I could get that quality from the drone camera. I use the 14-24 for tripod based panoramas. Fantastic lens!

7 months ago, I never imagined I'd be flying a drone - the technology is certain getting interesting.

Will be interesting to see how you get on with PTGui!
