I just upgraded from a P3 to the p4, had a quick run on it the first day and everything seemed fine. Did the latest firmware update (410) the next day and now my max speed is 20mph which I swear is about 15mph less than it was before and defintely less than the P3. It also has noticeable sluggish feel to every input from the user. It also now has a slight drift to the right when i fly straight ahead at full speed. Sport mode speed is still 45mph though.
Does anybody know if i have a faulty P4 or whether this is normal, or if the firmware update has messed with the craft?
Thanks. I understand the firmware update can reset the Phantom to factory defaults but what I'm trying to ascertain is if the top speed is capped at around 20mph by default, (which somebody has just suggested it is with object avoidance on) or do I have a faulty unit? I also did an IMU calibration after the update and none of the settings were changed before or after the update, other than rth altitude.
Restricted to about 20mph(10m/s) in P mode with object avoidance switched on, switch off OA & will go faster, go to sport or Atti mode for top speed of about 45mph(20m/s) in still conditions, faster with a tail wind.
"You can clean the OAS and test your drone again in windless area."
(sorry I don't know how to quote from a previous post!), Anyway, are you saying there may be a problem then if you're suggesting I clean the OAS? This is a brand new P4 so I would be surprised if it needs cleaning?
Cleaning will not make it go faster than 10 m/s (22 mph) with the Object Avoidance on.
The suggestion would only be useful if you were unable to achieve 10 m/s.
"Anybody have any idea why it's drifting to the right at full speed though?"
After you did the firmware update it's probably good working practice to calibrate :- OS sensors, IMU, Gimbal, RC controls & compass. This will take 20 minutes at most (Or an hour if cool down time needed), and might well sort out this problem.
Thanks.
I turned off the OAS and your absolutely right, back to normal It doesn't seem to drift with that off either which is great. I need to update to the latest firmware and do all the calibrations next.
