Here is a simple hack to make you z-axis work with your x5 camera, no spring cutting required. Simply remove the top spring cover on the z-axis using a 2 mm tool, then using small zip tie tighten  the spring in half,  cut excess zip tie then reinstall top spring guard. It seems to work great with x5 camera. ( do not remove lower spring cover as it will pull the ribbon cable loose and ruin your z-axis as I did with my first z-axis) removing the top spring cover with care, do this at your own risk!!!

Hi R&L Aerial,
We would not recommend any modification on the Z-Axis, any damage caused by the modification will not be guaranteed by DJI.
Anyways, I appreciate your idea and thanks for sharing with our people.

Thanks for your understanding.

Sounds like DJI needs to supply the z-axis with a spring that can support the x5 (and probably another one that can support the x5r).

I've been testing this setup for the past 2 days and it works really well and it only takes about 10 minutes to complete and is reversible.

Did you rip the ribbon cable on the first one? I would be interested in purchasing the broken one.

I think it's a good idea, well, our engineers will consider about it and if there's any update about it, we will let you know.

Thanks.

Hello.
Do you mean that the X5R camera can work normally with the Osmo via the attached Z-Axis?

Thanks.

Yes I broke the ribbon cable, it was ripped from the connection plate.

Hey just a note, we found the stock spring deformed over time. Eventually we just went to Home Depot and bought a different, stiffer spring. Works perfectly with x5R.

Well, Home Depot has any sizes of springs you need.

It's expected the rings will deform, since the z-axis stabilizer was designed for x3, which is lighter than x5.

CBBoyer13,

Any chance you have a link to the spring you purchased at Home Depot or any specs on the stiffer spring? Cheers!

I'd like to know as well. I replaced my spring with another one, but it doesn't operate quite as it should.

Hi,

Which spring did you purchase from Home Depot??

If you have one that works - this is so easy - please just list a part number!

Eventually DJI will supply a z-axis for their own product, but in the intervening 4-6 months those of us trying to work need something functional.
