I have one for my Lumix camera and tried to mount it. It is too wide to even come close to mounting to the X5.

Hi,
Nice comparison, but to wrong lens. I mean this one H-FS1442A 56mm max diameter @ 110g.
BTW H-FS12032E

While I haven't tried that lens I am sure it will not work for several reasons.
It would likely mount physically, as diameter is the same.

BUT... here's the problem. The H-FS1442A is not an electronic zoom. The zoom ring has to be manually rotated to zoom the lens.
And then, the barrel extends. This would extend the center of gravity way out.

H-FS12032E , Now this might be a winner!!

It appears that it may mount and should work. Balancing would need to be addressed.

The only way to know would be to try it. From the look of it, the lens is still a manual zoom. The Panasonic site says turn the zoom ring one way to open and another to close. It doesn't say that it is a motorized zoom. But it may work, if you set it to whatever focal length before take off, it should auto focus...... but.. again the only way to tell for sure would be to try it.

Here’s one on eBay for $176.00 USD with the shipping.
Might be worth a try. If it doesn't work, just re-sell it on ebay. You can probably sell it for the same as what you pay for it.I have done this with several things and had good results.

Why not go with the olympus version that we all know works with the X5/X5R?

What about H-FS12032E the winner? I found M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14‑42mm 1:3.5‑5.6 II R which should fit X5.

Pancake style zoom lenses are the only choice for X5 camera. I had Olympus 14-42 for a while, but wasn't impressed much about quality and performance. Pancakes in general aren't the best performers. Image is not sharp enough for professional results, distorted at edges with certain magnification, smooth zooming via app for video is difficult to achieve. It's cheap though, but plastic housing and lens mount wouldn't last long. If you're after longer lens for X5, go for Olympus 45mm. It's a beauty! Be aware, however, that some Inspire 1 Pro structures may be a bit shaky or vibrating - as reported by few users - resulting with jello artifacts in video. Photography is awesome, I have no issue whatsoever in both applications ...

Powodzenia I szczęśliwych lotów!

Anyone used the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-32 mm on an X5R? Looks like there was chatter about the lens not having power zoom. If this is the case it kind of defeats the purpose as long as your landing the aircraft to change zoom might as well swap between high quality prime lenses.
