When I try to follow my boat it reaches max flight distance. How can I make it actually follow me? I try to set home point to my remote but it says home point not recorded.

Go into the Go App and settings then remove the maximum flight distance. If it says it cannot set the home point to the position of the RC unit, then most likely your phone/tablet does not have a functioning GPS receiver, as it gets the GPS position of the RC unit from your phone or tablet.

I'm using my iPhone 6s with gps enabled. Getting frustrated, I purchased this drone to film kids wakeboarding and it's not doing what it said it would do?!?!
