Can someone please tell me why the SSD drives cost $1500 each? The most expensive one I can find is $500. Why is DJI's three times more expensive?

Unfortunately I can't really speculate of the price, but the DJI SSD is proprietary to the X5R, and cannot be used as a normal SSD on its own.

For the same reason that HP printer ink costs more than human blood - because they can.
Cost of removable storage is part of the consideration for people buying the X5R.
If you need it, you'll pay for it. It's not a hobby / enthusiast product.
