Dear DJI,

Please add the option to display miles instead of feet for distance. Autel currently has this feature in their app.

Distance in miles? And just how often do you fly miles away? 5280 ft per mile.. do the math, the distance in meters is also not converted to kilometers... If you routinely fly multiple miles away, maybe there's a point to that.. but for most users that's not an issue. Also, you could flip to metric, then the calculation is way simpler...

I know a large amount of people on facebook and Phantom forums that fly miles away. When you are at 20,000ft, 30,000ft, 40,000ft, 50,000ft it would be easier to have the app display miles instead of total feet. I dont think it would be very difficult for DJI to add this option.

I'm curious.....who flies at 20,000,or 30,000 feet.  Not in the U.S. I hope.  

I think he means out, not up.

Still, u r "not supposed to" fly out of line of sight in the US. FAA regs. I did a test once, 7000ft one way.. but I do see the point, of perhaps if the distance is further than 10k ft, flip to a mile marker with decimal?

Look....1 mile is "about" a little over 5000 ft. Just use basic math in your head.
50,000 divided by 5000 = close to 10 miles!  

or just remove three 0's out....you will have a smaller number....
50/5 = 10

I'm curious how do you setup the  Phantom to fly up to 10 miles?

Rig up a giant antenna and hack to get more power output?

Yeah... uh.... I have range extenders and even in the best conditions I have only managed 2 miles out.    I thought THAT was a crazy feat.   I can't image how you could possibly fly one 10 miles away.

Wait a sec ...   he might be using one of those aftermarket apps to pre-plan his flight via GPS.    I suppose you could possibly do it that way.

What a crazy thing to ask for considering most people are complaining that they can just about get half a mile

Can you post links to ALL who are asking to have miles added. You say 50,000ft, your Phantom is not going to go anywhere near that distance.
BUT, you say you "know a large amount of people who would want that"
If you can post link to show a few hundred people who want it, then I'll send a request to R&D.

Agreed. I keep it in metric. Just multiply by three and you have feet. Not perfectly accurate as a enter is 39 inches, but close enough. Divide meters by 1000 and you have kilometers. One kilometer is .63 miles. 1.6km is about a mile. Much easier to do in your head than calculating based on 5280.

Yeah, and if I were flying over a mile or so, I'd switch to metric anyway.  I really only use Imperail 'cause I'm more comfortable using it to compare height of objects, particularly on the fly.

DJI-Ken do you respond to all customers who spend 'thousands' of dollars with DJI this way? Is this why everyone on the internet says that DJI has the worst customer service?

Its a simple software change that many people would appreciate.

It will go 50,000 and has. You must not stay up to date on other Phantom forums.
Adding the new Maxx range antenna from maxxuav.com is one way some have gotten it. And that's without any amps!
There is also the Terminator antenna that might even be a little better, although heavier.
They are running battery mods also to increase flight time.
Like Tony, I have seen many who would like it in miles. It's discussed on other forums.

As I posted earlier, if anything is to be changed in the app it would need to be shown that tons of users would like it. That's what I asked you for.
So if this is a feature you would like, then take the initiative and gather the people (you already said you know many) and then I can send a request.
It makes no sense to send a request saying that a user and he knows many are asking if this feature is available.

Good, that's what I asked for. Create your own thread and when enough people post to it and and there's links to sites where other users want it then I'll email R&D and include your thread.

Autel already has this feature in their app.

I really want to see the person who can see something the size of a Phantom 3 that far away with the unaided eye.  This person is a freak.

Dude, you barely went over a mile one way.... unless i totally misread the distance in your video?
I am all for improvement, but there's so much more that DJI could do, as opposed to a mile distance display.. I have a feeling this will not go. One way to get this through, is make a poll thread (when you select a new thread there's a poll option) - this way I think u can certainly get a good % of preferences - not sure if u can get an actual count of votes.. that would be a cool way to get people to vote it in. It is possible that some dji forums, not hosted by DJI can also provide nice ways to get a request count. I think DJI would certainly consider a request if enough pple wanted it. Even if DJI-Ken was tongue in cheek, I am sure he'd personally file a feature request if a sizable number of users requested it!
I wonder if litchi app does that, since they are very much gps mission preplanned mission-centric.

With modded antenna and right place, I think it's possible to go 10 miles, one way, if you have someone on that end to collect your drone.

Say, you control the drone flying along the interstate freeway  in the desert in Nevada, your friend is driving behind the drone to pick it up once the battery is drained.



The farthest I've seen is 8 kms, or about 5 miles, but the drone returns in this case.

I've seen 10 miles and back using modded antenna and modded batteries

In the UK we've made a half arsed attempt at going metric, so reading the drone speed in MPH and height/distance in metres would be cool
