A thread is to discuss the Flame Wheel F450 quad-copter and Flame Wheel F550 hexa-copter.

I put the 2 in one thread because they are very similar (same arms, same esc’s, same motors, and same Naza controller) and some of the accessories like landing gear, gimbals, and GoPro mounts can be used with either.

After you build your multi-rotor and download the Nasa Assistant this is the order to follow.

1 Remove props or secure them in some way!!! With the new E300 props this is easy with the old motors and props I use wooden dowels because I do not want to keep taking off my props every time I do an update or connect the hexa to check something in assistant.

2 Open up Naza Assistant on your computer. click Skip ((You only need to click skip in you are following this order. If you already plugged in the battery in your multi-rotor and connected you USB then you do not have to click skip.))

3 Plug in your USB to computer then to your LED module on your multi-rotor

4 Then turn on your Transmitter

5 Then plug in your battery on your multi-rotor

6 You should see a steady green light on your LED module and a green light and a blinking blue light at bottom left of Naza Assistant window.

Now you can do your TX calibration and set up your GPS xyz, mixer type, receiver type, gains, motor idle speed, cut off type, failsafe, IOC, and voltage 1st and 2nd level.

After you update do a basic and advance calibration even if after you hit [Check IMU Status] and it says you do not need to still do it.
Then go outside and do compass calibration.

Side note:
For Spektrum radio binding with DJI Naza. I use Spektrum so that is why I go into more detail on Spektrum. I am thinking about getting a Futaba also. It seems to work well with Naza.

Spektrum.
To set Preset Failsafe on the receiver. Power on the receiver with bind plug inserted, once the receiver is blinking removed the bind plug. Place your programmed Failsafe switch (Mix/Hold) switch to Pos.1 (in other words PUT FAILSAFE SWITCH IN FAILSAFE POSITION) and Power on the radio in bind mode. Wait until the lights on receivers stop flashing and wait till your transmitter finishes binding.

This will set PRESET failsafe, recommended receiver failsafe type for use with Naza Controller.

People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Hi Dave glad to see you here. Good info as always.

Thanks! It's good to be here. This looks like it could be a really good forum and I am so heavily into DJI products right now that it seems to make sense for me to be here.
By the way I accidentally clicked on the opposition button under your post. Sorry! I definitely do not oppose you that's for sure. I tried to change it to support but it wouldn't let me. I'm not even sure what that is for, I just now joined the forum so I am still learning the layout.

Some pics from one of my F450 builds and one of my F550 builds. These pics are from an older build with the red motors and Naza1.I will also post up some more recent build pics from my newer f450 and F550.
I have two F450's and two F550's and I am about to start building another F550 in a Y6 setup. I will post info and pics on that one as I go and try to answer any questions on it.

Has anybody extended the arms and put the e600 motors and a fat 10000mah 6s on a f450. I want to do this, and through my calculations, I should get a whooping 43 min flight time. Any insights as to why this should work or not work out? Has anybody that you know of done this? I would greatly appreciate replies.
thanks,

I do know of 2 people using E600 motors and extended arms on 450's using 6S. One in California and one in Florida. I do not remember much about there exact setup or stats. I will try to find out more for you. The guy I know in Cali is a friend so I will call him.

I have AeroXcraft gear and ATG gear.

Here is a comparison between the AeroXcraft from (AeroXcraft - UK) and the ATG gear from (GoodluckBuy - China).

The AeroXcraft was $168.97 with shipping. It weighs 195 grams or 6.8oz (gear with battery tray, velcro to secure battery and added foam pads on skids) I also had to buy the foam pads extra. The ground clearance from ground to bottom of camera & battery mounting rail is 137mm or about 5 3/8 inches.
It is made from G10 and aluminium.
I did not include weigh of the generic camera mount that came with the gear. I was trying to keep the two landing gears as much the same as I could.

The ATG gear was $41.72 with shipping. It weighs 200 grams or 7.0oz (gear with battery tray, velcro to secure battery and included foam pads on skids). The ground clearance from the ground to bottom of camera & battery mounting rail is 192mm or about 7 5/8 inches.
It is made from carbon fiber and plastic.
I did not include weight of the generic camera mount or the (fpv transmitter) mount that came with the gear. I was trying to keep the two landing gears as much the same as I could.

The mounting hardware that came with the AeroXcraft was 35 grams or 1.2oz where as the mounting of the ATG hardware was 5 grams or .2oz. I would add some strong double sided tape the the ATG hardware though bringing it up another 5 grams or .2oz. So 10 grams or .4oz for the ATG mounting. This brings AeroXcraft to 230 grams and ATG to 210 grams for AUW without camera mounting system. I did not include camera mounting system because most guys will use some form of camera mount with brushless gimbal that they buy separate.

So the ATG is lighter, has better ground clearance, and is cheeper.

E300 system compared to the old system.
A few of you guys knew I was going to compare the E300 motor and ESC to the Red 2212 motor and 30A ESC combo.
So here is my comparison...

1st 450 with 2212 motors and 30A Opto ESC's weighs : 1060 grams with 3s 3200mAh Lipo
2nd 450 with E300 system weighs : 1060 grams with 3s 3200mAh Lipo
So (AUW) all up weight is exactly the same.
They are both 810 grams empty weight. I.e. no lipo battery.

All settings in Naza assistant are exactly the same.
1st 450 with 2212 motors and 30A Opto ESC's has Naza V1. and DJI 1038 props
2nd 450 with E300 has Naza V2 and DJI 9443 props

I used the same 3200mAh 3S pack for all flights.

I did all flights for exactly 8 minutes with the timer set to my throttle stick. All flight were flown exactly the same by just hovering at about 20 feet altitude in GPS mode.

I did 4 flights with the 1st 450, after each flight I charged the battery and checked to see how much mAh I put back in to the pack in order to see how much mAh was used.
1st 8 min flight 1630mAh
2nd 8 min flight 1614mAh
3rd 8 min flight 1609mAh
4th 8 min flight 1595mAh

average of all 4 equals 1612mAh

1612/8min = x/60min

X= 1612 times 60 divided by 8= 12,090

The energy used per hour equals 12,090mAh and that gives us the energy used per minute of 202mAh

I did 4 flights with the 2nd 450 with the E300, after each flight I charged the battery and checked to see how much mAh I put back in to the pack in order to see how much mAh was used.
1st 8 min flight 1520mAh
2nd 8 min flight 1530mAh
3rd 8 min flight 1541mAh
4th 8 min flight 1490mAh

average of all 4 equals 1520mAh

1520/8min = x/60min

X= 1520 times 60 divided by 8= 11,400

The energy used per hour equals 11,400mAh and that gives us the energy used per minute of 190mAh

I then take the 202 and subtract 190 that gives me 12 then divide that by 202 that equals .056 rounded up to 6%

So by my calculations the E300 is 6% more efficient.

In all my flights comparing the 2 systems, I will say, with out a doubt, the E300 is a better system. I think a big part of it is the ESC's and the Prop's. The F450 with the E300 tuned propulsion system has much more responsiveness! It just had a more locked in feel to it, and was very responsive to my stick movements. If you have been flying RC for a long time you know what I mean. The motors also seem to run very smooth and are very quite.

He is not near you, he is in Orange County. I did talk to him today. He said he likes the E600 with extended arms on his F450. But he did not have any flight times for you because he has not tried to fly it for duration. He did not say much more than that he was busy with work.

If i were you I would go for it and report back here with your findings. :-)

Hi,

Yesterday I had the maiden flight of my f450 and it did put a smile on my face!

There is though a point of great frustration for me. Trying to standardize the battery connectors. I decided to use XT60s, and did try to replace one battery's 4mm bullet connectors with that, but could not do it! The battery utilizes 10AWG wire and that's too thick to handle even for my 250W soldering gun. I ended up soldering an adapter cable 12AWG.

How do you people cope with this?
Thanks in advance,
Takis

Can anyone recommend some good gains for F450 Naza V2 with E300 on 3S 5000mah. At the moment I am running with
135 135 125 130 Basic Gains
135 135 Attitude.
This is working fine but I am looking for something a bit more docile and better in wind for AP.

Try lowering your ATTI gains to 90.  That will calm it down for AP.  I actually find in windy conditions that I need to raise the Basic gains.

i have a 450, I was running a 3s 2200 battery and getting about 8-9 min out of the battery before the red light came on. Today I got a new 3s 4000 battery and got about 9 min out of it. I didnt think the weight was that much of an issue? Also I read somewhere you need to break in a lipo? Also when I charged it, it only put a little over 2000 back into the battery? Do I need to do something to break in the battery? Or should I get a lighter battery?

I'm a newbie, and just completed my first F450 test flights, You said you, "charged the battery and checked to see how much mAh I put back in to the pack in order to see how much mAh was used".
Could you explain how you determined how much mAh you put back into the pack. I have an, ImaxRC B6Ac Lipo charger, and when it beeps and displays Full, the value that I expect to be the amount is less than half what my pack is rated for. Could it  be, my voltage alarm settings are incorrect, and my pack was still half full?

Hi everybody,

Battery blues:
I'm using 4500mah 3S batterys and getting ~ 8-9 minutes of slow flight. I use the ImmersionRC TX and a Mobius camera. No gimbal. I was wnadering how do you set up your battery limits in Naza assistant? By default it has level-1 warning @ 11.2V and level-2 @ 11.1V. However I noticed through the OSD display that the Phantom II goes down to 10.9V.
Would you mind sharing your setup?
Thanks in advance,
