I use two Lume Cubes on my Phantom 4 for night flying. Recently found a work-around to add color lights....CLING VINYL.
I measure and cut a square to fit over each light. Fits perfectly. Blinking port and starboard running lights help to identify the orientation of the craft.
Plus, it looks cool.

With the added weight, whats your average flight time now?

Anywhere from 22 to 23 minutes......depending on type of flight. I don't see a drastic loss of flight time. I do see a more stable flight, especially in high winds.

I''ve never heard of the cling vinyl. where do you find it. I too have several of the lume cubes and I agree it does add stability and doesn't really affect the flt times.

That's mighty fine customer service, and awesome shipping...I have followed included directions & charged mine up and now have installed them on my Phantom 3 Pro. They fit right tight...
Had also considered adding some cool colored vinyl film too, but these units get mighty hot, when left on, for a while.
So I'm wondering if they will remain slightly cooler, while up, flying around? And perhaps at one half brightness setting.

I fly in the 5 khz stobe mode.....no heat problem.....don't recommend using "constant on" mode, as that will generate lots of heat.

I know mine came on while charging, and I picked them up, without thinking. yikes, they do get hot...
Yes, they're so variable & easy to adjust the brightness. 'Cool' idea flying at low intensity... ;-)

You'll never have a heat problem is you operate about 70% intensity and in strobe mode.

Put on "blue" vinyl last night......word in the neighborhood "it's a police drone". Hate to break it to 'em....keeping it a secret for now.
Have to admit, it does look like the cops flying. There's a cop car that sits in a kind of hidden area off a major hwy.....I buzzed him
and then came back and hovered at about 20' and 50' from his vehicle. He cranked it up and left in a hurry.

yep reached 192 degrees in five minutes with the red on, so I quickly turned it off. its ok tho still works. the green only got to 112 degrees in 5 minutes. so definitely will only use the strobe set to .5......lol I haven't tried the blue yet ! great idea !   I found that 1 inch square with the corners trimmed a little is a good fit !
I only tried this in my house with the cubes, but might try them tonight !  will let everyone know what happens. !

If I placed any film on mine, I don't plan on leaving them on high setting 10, for long periods of time.
But I know where I can buy real thin scientific glass, like what is used on microscope slides.
Not sure if it can be purchased, already stained with color...?

The snap on color gels are in production now and will be in beta later this year.

From my inside information, was told today, these extras will be available for purchase next month.
"It looks to be set for early next month, however no exact release date has been set yet.

We are releasing an aluminum cage that will attach over the Lume Cube and have magnets to snap different filters/gels on to alter the light."

I'm still looking to get a set of these, those vinyl colors look great.

The beauty of vinyl is it's economical and colors can be changed on the fly. Brilliant, bright colorful lights in the sky using the Lume Cubes.

Sheesh, is it just me or was anybody else expecting to see a VIDEO included with this thread?!? I managed to find one doing some night flying on YouTube (no colored lights tho, just white)

Ok can't un-see it damn.... I like the colored filters idea.  A lens to focus it some would be awesome and you'd get more out of the beam.  I'd be out in the park at 2am running a Litchi mission yep.  I know the police stop by the park at various times so it's bound to raise a brow or two.  You could send it around the lot 2 or 3 times then off to somewhere else just like the police heli does.
Can you change the pitch on that particular mount?

Yes, the Lume Cubes on drone mounts, are very adjustable.

Yep 1/4-20 nice.  I'd have to have 2 sets.  White for certain times and then a red/blue pair set to flashing for other times.  Might curtail some of the mischievous activities in the park.

I was told yesterday, early next month,  Lume Cube are releasing an aluminum cage which fits around the cube, and has magnets to hold various gels, filters, barn door, a honeycomb.
So changing colors or altering the light on the fly will be a breeze. ;-)

yes, they will rotate 360 degrees, but not to the sides.

4 cubes with different vinyl filters,

I found another use for the Lume Cube mounts, mounting a Swann HD camera so now have 2 cameras, tho can't control the Swann after takeoff but it does work well. Not sure if GoPro or other cameras this size has the 1/4 x 20 thread.

For goodness sakes, those fit so precise, you may have cut them out with a surgical laser knife... Ha

They really look professionally done.

Other cubes are a nice idea.  I wish DJI would give the option to switch the two red led to red and green. It would be much easier to recognize the relative alignment of the aircraft in the air.

Even in brightest clear sky afternoon, with the Lume Cubes set to strobe, they are clearly visible for several miles....
I have been happily "Flying" with these steady, for three consecutive days, & I am really impressed and happy I have purchased them.
The onboard blinking green and red LED diodes are great at night for easy orientation of flight.
Ah, but they quickly disappear, in broad day, unlike the Lume Cubes, even up above 150m and out a couple kilometers. ;-)
