But!
With or without grid, indoor or outdoor, flying or manually moved, dark or bright scene - the distortions are the same all the time. And they are in the same places.. Rolling shutter has nothing to do with this kind of distortion. Rolling shutter affects the whole picture when there are fast moving objects. These distortions affects only small part of the picture and they are most visible when there is slow panning.

Yes, I see it. I think it's in exactly the same places as mine.
My drone is currently in Germany for repair.

Again, this is not "normal and acceptable", certainly not when I've spent $1400. This cannot be described as a feature. It is a defect in either hardware or software. Since it is occurring in the same place in more than one Phantom 4 I would assume it points to a hardware issue.

After two months of waiting I received the drone and I found that DJI service did NOTHING!!!!! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!


The problem still persists.

Might be time to upgrade to something serious if you want to eliminate the distortion that you get out of the Phantom which is an intro-level consumer camera.

A Canon EOS-1D C (Cinema) camera body with a Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 II lens.  But then you'll also need a heavy-lifter flier like the DJI S1000 or Free Fly Alta 6 or 8 to lift it.  There is a reason and market for the cinema quality gear verses consumer grade.  Just be prepared to shell out $15K or more.

From DJI support told me that they had replaced the camera and the gimbal?!?! For me everything is the same.

Today I checked another video resolutions and I found that everything above 1920x1080 is OK (as it was before repairing).

Here is an example comparing 2704x1520 and 1920x1080




It's blurry because it's too close to the object, sorry.

my drone was for 2 months in DJI Germany repair service and it was returned with the same issue. Now they want to send it back again?!?!?! Is there any technician in Germany who can detect image distortions?

This is NOT a repairing service at all! I don't know what to do.

I simply don't believe that they will repair it. I don't want to send it again before someone assure me that they have capabilities to check for image distortions.

I've seen this in my P4 videos.  Usually shoot in 1080P.  Needs a complex subject to see it, ie not  ...

Try to shoot in 2704x1520  to see if there are any distortions. For me everything above 1920x1080 is OK.

Sorry, but I can't understand anything.

I didn't get any proof or details that my Phantom 4 was actually tested for image distortions.
DJI Germany wasted my time. I lost two months because of them.

Is the grid itself a video display? If so, you are seeing the effect of the interference between the refresh rate of the source and the frame rate of the camera with its rolling shutter. That is to be expected. What happens if you shoot at a static, printed grid? Nothing I suspect.

I looked at the sticker of the gimbal and it's definitely the old one (if it's new, it is supposed to be flat, but it isn't). So, I'm 90% sure that my camera and my gimbal was not replaced. Support5.DE DJI refused to provide me with any detailed info about the replacement. There is no any sample of video, they don't tell me how actually they tested the image distortion. Everything is a secret. I don't know what happens with the replaced spare parts. I don't know who controls the whole process.

I need additional information about my case.

I received olny a repair receipt with minimum information.

If the issue is not evident by shooting at higher resolutions then logic dictates that it cannot be an optical/camera/gimbal problem but perhaps one of software. Replacing the camera and/or gimbal will not solve this issue. It could concievably be vibration affecting your rolling shutter. In which case you may need to balance your props. Looking at your repair receipt, that is exactly what they detected. The question is how was the vibration fixed rather than did they replace the camera/gimbal or not.

It's not from props, because I made tests without rotating props at all.
I also think that it should be firmware issue, but DJI Support told me that it isn't. Now I know that DJI support Germany is very unprofessional, so again I think it's firmware issue.

I purchased 2 of these P4s with this exact problem right out of the box, I think all P4 cameras have the issue, I looked at a bunch of youtube videos and same thing.

NOT normal and definitely NOT ACCEPTABLE DJI

Looks like moire to me. All digital cameras experience moire when you video an object with a repeating pattern. Its not a defect with the camera. Its completely normal if it is moire.

That's ok. No harm, no foul. I've overcome the problem anyway by upgrading my computer. Got a gaming PC so I'm now filming everything in 4K so I don't get the "pinching" that occurs in 720p & 1080p.

Yeah my pc wont even think about 4k. Even editing 2k is stop go, stop go, stop go. Timing anything is nearly impossible. I usually just shoot in 1080p  to make it easier to edit. I dont have any equipment to view 4k. Its time for an upgrade for sure. I put all my money in audio equipment.
