Hi just about to embark on my qualification which since I'm already a helicopter pilot can be abbrieviated but just wondered if anyone was willing to send me a copy of their manual. I have no interest in just copying it, as the work I intend doing will be quite specialised needing exemptions fom the CAA but I just wanted to get the feel for what has been accepted by them. Is anyone prepared to help on this front. Happy for the company name to be removed before sending me it etc. Thanks in anticipation. I will be using an Inspire 1 and a M600.

I too would appreciate if someone could go out of their way and spend their hard earned cash and their time and effort and send me their OM so I don't have to bother. I could just copy yours for zero effort and zero expense to myself thus earning myself a cushty Pfaw. Brilliant idea, wish I had thought of this before! I amaze myself sometimes.

Hmmmm, the cost of the course is the same regardless of whether somebody sends a copy of their manual or not, so not sure where the hard earned cash comes into it. I believe that the reason for the instructors not assisting in the writing of the manual is so that pilots can gain the experience from this in relationship to their own products and auxiliary equipment attached to it. As a result everyone manual will be unique to their equipment / cameras / type of work / conditions in which they will operate and I could go on and on. The purpose of the request was not to try and short circuit this process but to see exactly in how much detail people had gone into and get some sort of idea of what was going to be required time wise in putting this together. The majority of my work will involve the M600 with some specialised LIDAR equipment and specialised software as well as a small amount of conventional photograhpy with a bit of radiomagnetic readings. It will require specific areas to be written in order to get exemptions from the CAA in flying close to objects and buildings. I doubt anybody's manual would be that specific, as I said before and in my original post "I have no interest in copying it" I just wanted to get  a feel for what has been accepted in the past and the detail therin (albeit useless as my equipment will be totally difffernt) DUH!!!!!!

Helipilot, I have some sympathy with markaguille's views having just written and had my Ops Manual accepted.  It took about 6 weeks of work - during which I could have been earning money doing stuff - time is money that's where the hard-earned cash comes into it - it's the money I spent supporting myself while I produced the manual.  Yes, all manuals are unique but there is a hell of a lot of common stuff.  If you are about to embark on a half-decent course then you'll soon find this out.  Many operators will be working close to properties and people - it isn't that unique or special - and the CAA probably don't care too much if you are taking radiomagnetic readings - providing that doesn't cause an issue with your or other's equipment.  I reckon a paragraph will close that out - if not a sentence.  Your NQE should be happy to let you see (but not have a copy of) their manual. Let's face it - if you're going to be paying them a chunk of cash for your training they're the people to ask.  We were advised in no uncertain terms that it is commercially naïve to let clients have ready access to our OM's so please understand that you are in fact asking rather a lot of people.

Hi all

Quite a few courses assist by giving you a template to work from and to customise it.

The NQU I work with on training have a 1 day Ops manual workshop as part of the course and allows students to work from a template to customise the manual.

Then if you head over to the CAA website they have template OM's posted which will answer your question.
Since you are already a 'Helicopter Pilot' one would imagine you are familiar with both how the CAA operates, Flight Logs and OM's in general.

It is highly unlikely (and understandable) that anyone will just be happy to 'send you' their operations manual. All the information in respect of mandatory subjects that must be covered are readily referenced on the CAA website.

Thanks, didn't realise it was such a taboo thing. Flying helicopters commercial requires an AOC and similar ops manual which many companies share but I do take your point so sorry if I've offended anyone and thanks for the input!

Your Ops manual also states the technical aspects of the drone of which you plan to operate.

This also covers the process you will do to undertake the pork (Risk assessments etc).  As a fixed wing pilot (and currently learning heli) the Drone side isn't quite the same as if I was an AOC or the like.

The CAA sight gives you a format of what they expect to see, not a word Template.

I created a word document and workpack addendum template that is all highlighted as to what requires to be changed / customised.

I have provided probably all the answers and spec information on this  forum for the Inspire UAV, which are required for a standard Ops Manual to submit to the CAA.  It would be appreciated though if some could at least have a stab at completing their own manual first and I am not making reference to anyone in particular here just a general comment.

All commercial UAV Pilots have had to do this from scratch and as previously indicated by myself and others, most training providers such as EuroUSC etc. provide a comprehensive Ops Manual template to get you started.

If you can't find the answers, try the forum or ask specific questions from members and you will find you will get the help.  Its just more beneficial to the individual to at least try and complete their own manual first.  It will be a better learning exercise and you will gain the respect for at least attempting to complete it first.
You will also find your particular Training provider will assist you in completing the Ops Mannual, so there should be lots of avenues available for finding the information.

Thanks Markaguille, I did already have this, my point, as per my previous posts, was how much detail I would be expected to go into. Thanks for your help, I've now started to put it together and hopefully based upon several conversations will crack it.

The template the CAA have is actually out of date.

The ANO 2009 has been replaced with a 2016 version. When I revised my standard template, the MOR reporting scheme methods have also changed.

It is a good idea to keep abreast of such changes by registering with the CAA for document updates and the like, that way you can update your ops manual to a new revision when changes happen.
