No, it can't, it needs the device to run Android or iOS to work.
*Edit: it actually can, you'll just lose some features.

If I just need it as a stabiization platform and not use any of the smart features?

Dji Osmo mobile.. I had the same question and I got an answer from DJi, they confirmed that you can operate the Osmo mobile and it's not reliant on any App.  You can essentially mount a camera that is not app capable.

It actually can be used as a stabilization platform, as long as the thing is not too heavy, and has something that the clamp can clip onto(not too thick)

Also, you'd need to figure out how to balance it right? Good to know, time to get one and try it out!

The GoPro is mounted facing you but you can turn the Osmo 180 degrees and it works fine.

Hi Guys,

I also made a mold/mount out of foam for my action cam. I can use it as a front facing cam without the gimbal being in the shot.

Motion time lapse is one of the features you lose by not using the Osmo Mobile with a phone.

I whipped one up real quick on tinkercad. Still have to print and test but it generally is just an iphone model with a session mount stuck on it.

Once I have it fixed up I will post a link.

So you can't stick the gopro where the phone would go on the gimbal and then use the app to control the gimbal? The phone has to physically be on the gimbal in order for all the features to work?

I tried to use the apps while the phone is not mounted and with the gopro mounted on the osmo mobile instead.. n managed to go motion time lapse with the gopro.. one thing i still can't figure out is how to use gopro on osmo mobile smoothly.. the gimbal motor tends to overwork n vibrate hard at certain time or at certain position when mounted with a gopro.. doesn't happen when using with my phone

Overwork and vibrate means the camera is not balanced and will eventually get hot and fail (blinking yellow light).

You just need to figure out how to balance it before turning it on (with counterweights - like the earlier samples using a AA-battery or two) once it is leveled turn it on and it shouldn't feel hot or overwork the motors.

For UK users, I bought this for my Hero 3+. It works well but you cannot use it on super-wide angle as you will find the Osmo in frame.

But, you can make motion time lapse, or timelapse with the gopro mounted on the osmo mobile?

To avoid this, use the Osmo in Torch mode, then the motor shouldnt be visible

Hello,
Has anyone found a great adapter for go pro sessions? one last thing, when you use your go pro with the osmo mobile2, do you use it facing you and then turn all the osmo to resume forward? or do you put the pro that looks directly to the outside?

Let me know what you think
