Pilot error, I clipped a tree, bashed around in the tree then fell into the river.
Took home, washed then removed the destroyed camera gimbal assembly.
Flies well with No Signal in red constantly.
Now have 173 KMs with this single incident, love this thing.
Paid 800 CAD
So the real question is repair or buy new?
If I repair I will get it done by DJI based upon recomendations from this forum.

Should have asked for the reason behind you votes.
I have my own thoughts, but I am curious to know the reasoning.

I would maybe be tempted to send it in for a quote for repair, if it were 300 dollars or less would you do it ?

300 or less I would do it.
I've heard that they do repairs for less than individuals can buy the parts.
I'm extremely capable, but like my money

I LOVE my P3 4k but the P4 has that collision avoidance thing as well as Lightbridge and I'd be tempted to put the money towards that.  Alternatively it might not be that much more to buy a brand new P3 4k (compared to repair cost). New motors, new everything.

And you'd also have a load of spares, batteries, remote controller etc

I'd thought about the spares or keeping as a winter jalopy if I go the new route. Winters in Montreal can be cold and snowy
I read about the Phantom 4 obstacle avoidance, seems objects have to be very distinct in order to avoid and it's makes sense sensor wise. Probably wouldn't have helped me, it was purely a depth perception error on my part, Wish it had been spectacular, but I was just slowly circling back and clipped a few leaves on the branch of a tree. They upset the balance and then it was over bashing around inside the branches.

I live in St Leonard but work out in the West Island
I found a nice place and fly there mostly in Laval east just off the 19 by the water & hydro dam.
I'd be willing to travel a bit if necessary.

I got myself a P3 4K for fathersday on a whim so not to much expprience but I take more risks than I really should.
If I loose it? I'll upgrade{:4_181:}

Well things change.
I now have 229Kms and 178 flights on my drone.
DJI no longer offer the P3 4K on their website for 599 USD with free shipping.
So I'm sending my drone in for a quote to fix.
Not interested in a P3 Std and the next P3 is 999 USD which is mucho $$$$ in CAD

I'm sceptical about the collision avoidance thing.
I think I read that in order for it to avoid something that it would have to have a solid pattern.
Tree leaves and branches I would imagine would not fit that description.
Just my two cents.
Probably better just to work on the pilot skills

DJI received my P3 4K Friday and I got my quote yesterday

I would have to be crazy not to do it.

Well done, not a bad price really, if it goes again get a Mavic or P4 (the best ).

It's great, funds had dried a little bit lately so it worked out great.
Little tight on funds and my Mrs was still like buy a new one, she makes me wonder what she wants or why she's trying to get rid of me

No return date yet, but confirmation today that it was tested and preparing to ship.
I have to give the DJI team 5 stars.
The explanation for sending to them were extensive and I had to read them twice to make sure that I was following, but it has been smooth sailing.
The email included the UPS shipping label along with the customs documentation.
They've kept me updated when they received it, I know because I watched the UPS tracking the whole way.
I got my quote within 24 hours and repaired in less than 12 hours from payment, then testing confirmation a day later.
So far so awesome Huge Smiles
That 210 USD includes the shipping too.My sweet Mrs has been after me for years to buy her a dune buggy and I would but we live in suburbia with no where convenient to use it

I had a similar experience... P3P fell into some freshwater for less than 1 minute.. Dried it out and it crapped out 2 weeks later. Sent to DJI they came back with "water damage" - Had it repaired through DJI - Came back better than ever and now I have insurance through StateFarm.

It's back, arrived yesterday. Now I just need the weather to cooperate so that I can test it.

Hmmm wonder if I have to do any re calibrations or anything.

Hmm can't seem to get my controller bound back to my drone.
Followed the instructions, looked up a youtube video and followed those instructions.
If anyone has any advice I'm all ears otherwise guess I'll give DJI a call for assistance

The button to relink is in a different place on the 4k from some of the other Phantom's
Test flight time, everything looks good from preliminary tests indoors without props.
Outside into the beautiful sunshine. I'll report back soon

2 full batteries used for 2 flights, working great.
Cannot syn my flight records now though.
I shipped without the remote, so they bound another controller for testing.
I relinked mine but cannot syn my flight records.
Any ideas?
