Thanks for posting that one.

Makes one sort of queasy. Not because we don't need clearly defined rules...we do.  It's discomforting because of the painfully convoluted nature of human bureaucracy and because of the well-known syndrome where those prompting the inception of code law are not always the ones who fully understand the details of what they regulate.  Take for instance the difference between something like Inspire and what was launched today in NC with long range crop analysis in mind.  You can see the potential for privacy violations  and other abuses with a long range high altitude and low noise aircraft.  You might also agree with me in that I'm less concerned with privacy violations from some neighborhood brat who wants a glimpse of the bikini next door than I am from those of a state actor with legal authority far beyond what private citizens have.

One irony found in the discussion is the clash of political interests that underlie any incoming regulations.  It is a bit anxiety provoking to think about those interests confusing the relative toy-like devices we hobbyists and even private agriculturists use with devices that could actually be used by state actors to invade privacy while flying under the often quite legitimate auspices of data collection.

Well nothing ventured, nothing gained.   Just hope they clearly delineate the drones from the 'drones' at some point.
