Was wondering what video player to use on Windows OS. I can't get them to play on an older Win 7 computer. The Windows Media Player doesn't recognize the codec or something. I recorded in Raw/JPEG format. My new laptop with Win 10 will play just fine. I would like to play them on my desktop instead. Any thoughts would be appreciated...

If its a Phantom 4 then ur recording in HD, and more then likely ur old pc cant handle the resolution

Your computer is more than likely too old to play high resolution videos the P4 is capable of producing.
And you said your recording videos in Raw/JPEG, that is the photos.
For video go into the video settings and change to a lower resolution and then try playing back on your computer. Try 1080 first, then 720.

Wont necessarily do you any good, there are old, poor Macs just like any other computer. And why would you support a company that is ripping off other countries by shifting its profits around.

Older computers tend to be tricky. There are a lot of free media codec download packages out there that may help with playback, but you may need to look around a bit. The prompt you got should have given you an idea as to which codec you need on that computer.

Download VLC Media Player.
It plays just about everything.

The problem is that 4k is a relatively new format, I have an older graphics card which although still good in terms of processing power, does not support 4k output. I have to rely on a less powerful, but newer (supports 4k format output) for my 4k out to my Asus 4k monitor. Of course 4k output in not needed to view a 4k file as most modern video playback software will rescale it to a 1080P output or whatever is required (given that the machine has sufficient processing power).

When I tried VLC on my 2.7K video it would 'skip a frame' every couple of seconds.
Cars would jump ahead on the road.

Windows media player is smooth on the same file.
If you want to play them on a tv you will have to down convert them.

On windows 10 the Application from their store (Free) "Film & TV" is pretty smooth at playing back the 4k files.

And can 'cast' to any network connected TV provided resolution is correct.

Well Hi again Geebax!  1) Just making a joke.  2) I would assume that buying a Mac wouldn't mean buying an old Mac.  3) Ireland has now said the EU was incorrect to order Apple to pay back taxes.  The EU will eventually retract the order.

Point 3)...And if big companies didn't have these tax havens round the world they might be able to provide more jobs and taxes at home. I doubt anybody would legally get away with paying equivalent of 0.05% corporation tax in the USA.

yup... agreed.  unfortunately we don't know the whole story, probably never will.  There is something deeply wrong with  the tax and cost structures here that practically force more and more manufacturing out of the USA.  A huge percentage of products that are sold here are manufactured beyond our borders.  You know something is wrong when it is a notable (and marketing bullet point) when a company bills their product as "Made in America".

the codec for windows doesn't have the H 264 codec required for the 4K video's used by the P4. my previous reply has all the new codecs and it is free.

I can confirm that the windows 10 media player or Films&TV App' can both playback the 4k MP4 files produced by the Phantom. So third party players not required unless desired

Yeah, and Apple do the same here in Australia. Australians have long been pissed off at the outrageous prices they pay fort Apple products, and then they set up shops here that pay no local taxes at all. I hope the EU does not back down and makes them cough up the whole 19 billion.

Oh thank goodness Rick.... I thought I was going to have to open a can of whimpering on you... lol.  Thanks for letting me know you were kidding, I thought maybe that was the case, but I wasn't sure.

Sometimes the companies in the US actually get a tax refund even when they are making billions.  I don't know how it works but the US has many loopholes for businesses.  It's been awhile since I read that article but I don't like paying more taxes than a multi billion dollar company.

MUST be a reason why the Mac has the highest customer satisfaction eh?  FWIW: I own quite a few Macs and quite a few PCs.... although some of the components are the same or have similar specs... there is a HUGE difference between the construction, design, software, and hardware overall.  Even down to the scissor action on the keys, or the way the trackpad is engineered to feel.... it is all so much more "human-oriented" in a thousand subtle ways and a handful of significant ones.  Yup, you pay a premium for a Mac, but it is the cumulation of the experience that makes it worth it.  Kind of like buying a BMW vs a Honda.  Honda is great, but the little details on the BMW make the difference.  Just sayin.

Old post I know but just thought I'd share my findings. Just tried my new Mavic Air and put the  SD card into a USB adapter and tried to play it directly from the SD card into a brand new Windows 10 PC. VLC, Movies & TV app and Mediaplayer(with codecs) all struggled. Copied the file to my HDD and all players worked fine. So in my case, the problem wasn't the players but the transfer rate from (probably a crappy) USB adapter.

First time posting so forgive me if there are technical glitches.

Try Brorsoft video player or a video converter from Brorsoft to change the file type.
