Hi not sure this has been given any thought and im sure im not the only father that's bit worried about the kids taking there drone without consent

It could also be used to prevent unauthorized  use if drone was stolen then it would not be able to be used. This would stop my children from being able to take my drone without my knowledge and flying or trying to fly it without me being present  im sure im not the only parent that would like this feature So DJI can you please build a child lock into firmware of the drone so that a password is required before the motors can be started

Before you say lock it away if kids going want to do something they will always find away even if that means stealing a set of keys and unlocking a door.

Lets see some smart reply I could really do with this future as I have to keep my drone at my parents house to prevent them being tempted to take it without me knowing.

Hello I'm usually try to be helpful on here but as a person without a child it bothers me that parents who don't seem to want to monitor their children properly want other people to put locks on it cuz they're not doing their job one they're not recommended for under 14 second when my parents had something they put it in a closet or garage and lock the door just lock up the controller. I mean no disrespect to you but our country is beginning more and more of a police state human race has been around for centuries but just within the last 50 years they started all these restrictions and locking things down I believe it's the parents job to keep their kids from doing wrong

Think I agree with bilwish76, that responsibility lies with you , I think if your children got into your alcohol cupboard they would do a lot more damage particularly to themselves, yet would you expect alcohol company's to invent a switch that turns wine into coke if a child try's to drink it, I think not..
Maybe take the battery out and put somewhere safe, if your child manages to find the battery plug it into drone get your tablet/phone find your password work out how to connect to dji go app figures out how to start the drone, then in my opinion they will be ready to fly, go spend some time with them and point out the safety issues and need to respect that the drone is not a toy. Good luck

Teach your children some discipline and to follow the rules. They sound like they are just running amok and you can't control them. You say they will steal your keys, in that case sell the drone and spend more time doing some parenting!

It has some merit though, at least as an anti theft device, if they could be secured like this it might not be a bad thing. Then you could have an App' to 'find my drone' next time it was powered up with an internet connection

Sorry, there is no suck device to prevent your aircraft from being flown.
What you can do is install a Trackimo and if they move your aircraft you will get a text message and then you can call them at home and tell them Don't Do It.

it is not just for kids, but also for someone stealing the drone. An ability to protect it even with a pin, would be cool. Now that means you CANNOT fly it without a phone or a tablet, only with DJI app actually connected, but I would see that as a good idea.
That expensive piece of equipment should have some locks just like cellphones have.... this would also help with whole theft issue, where DJI says they cannot help to track the drone, and are unwilling to share data, even if the "new owner" syncs their flight data to dji....  Now.. if DJI allowed users to view their own drone flight data online.. but they do not...

I have to go with the majority here, sorry but it seems the real issue here is miss behaved kids. Do you have to lock away all your meds., kitchen knifes, tools and the like. I do have kids and they don't get into things that are off limits. Can't believe you have to leave your drone at another home because your kids might misbehave? Like another posting said just put the batteries somewhere hidden, we don't need passwords on our drones.

How would a thief know it was password protected, it would not stop even one theft. And why would DJI get involved giving out location data that could lead to a confrontation. Big legal consequences is their data lead to property damage or bodily harm.

hmm... maybe i can 3d print a lock that can fit onto the pins inside the drone that connect to the battery. this would be harder for the phantom 4, since the pins are in the back, but my phantom 3's pins are right up front.
Maybe something that goes around this pin since there seems to be nothing directly behind it :

perhaps a kensington style lock that binds 2 halves of a hinged piece of plastic together around the lock, preventing the battery from being inserted.

Just take the props with you when you leave.  Or the battery.  Then put a little hurt on the rear ends of the kids if they tamper with it.  Pain is a great teacher.
