Braintrust,

I hope I can describe my question without too much confusion.

I recently picked up a Phantom 4, and am interested in the larger screen of the ipad mini 4. Does adding this Ipad to my AT&T plan cost anything extra beyond the $10.00 per month for data? I was thinking of getting a used one to save some "coin." Coin is a word I heard recently that is used to describe money... Yes, I'm old...

Thanks in advance,

paul

You don't need cellular data at all for flying with your iPad.

If you're thinking that it's required for showing maps then there is another way, you can link to your wifi at home and with 'cache maps' on in DJI Go you can swipe map across to area you will be flying in, and zoom in. I usually leave DJI Go open to preserve this data (I don't bother with maps too often so not sure if it can be closed without clearing cache). Then when you go to flying site data is there.
But all will work perfectly well without the wifi or 'cell data' connection.
If you have a cell device for accessing GPS then it doesn't need a SIM card for GPS to work.

Or if you have an iPhone you may be able to setup a 'Personal Hotspot' if you wanted addistional mapping data.

The above posts are correct.
And if you activate the Mini to your data plan it may be more then the $10 if you go over your limit with the iPad.
And yes, look for a good used one to save you some COIN

There's no need to leave it on.
Cached maps are stored so you can access them in a future session.
