This does look pretty good. Is this straight out of the camera or have you done any adjustments to the colors and sharpness?

You may get a tad better video/photo results from the P4, it has just a bit longer flight time, the FOV is 94°, and a little faster in Sports Mode.
Other than that personally I would want the Mavic because I really need portability and that's more important to me for what I want to do.

I don't know, the Mavic has 24 cores processing massive amounts of data, I don't know what can and would be if any transfer to the P4.

Wow, i would not say the image quality was slightly worse than the Phantom 4. I would say it was wayyyyyy worse than the Phantom 4. I am going to have to rethink this. I was really sold on the Mavic until this video. The Karma might be a better option.

Also the mavic doesn't stop as quickly, it's more plastic, I don't see how it can cope as easily in high winds with smaller motors and even if it can it will use more battery, also the advertised flight time as always is less in real life, and going full speed you will not get 27 mins flight time

To be honest it looks like the image is not properly focused, ive seen other vids from ijustine as well and I thin definetly Neistat got the manual mode pn the camera and didnt focused

You might be right because most of the vloggers get pretty blurry results while most of the samples from drone enthusiasts came pretty comparable to P4
I built few other comps including DJI promo footage.

I even compared 1080p footage from iJustine and Casey's Mavic tests.
For some reason, Casey footage is not as sharp.

Jeez... I had seen Ken's videos and just put my P4 on sale. Then I watched Casey's comparison and I thought, no way in hell I sell my P4 !!!!

Casey is a great storyteller but his technical skills are not on par
I don't think his "test" is dependable especially after comparing to other Mavic video tests.

In my opinion DJI should contact Casey and help him calibrate his drone.

Well... I am not sure. Knowing how many people is going to watch his blog, I would presume DJI told him twice about the auto/manual focus in this particular case, but I might be wrong, of course...

Newest video by casey was made filming in 4k shows image is still soft and not as good as the p4. He made this video because all the comments were stating it was soft because of his compression. New video still soft. Dji has claimed it's the same camera just smaller. The video does not look 4k. Looks more like 720p thoughts? I still preordered but regretting selling my p4 for this. I'd use my p4 for shots that are in the country and don't require much foot travel and the mavic for traveling abroad. I guess you can't have it all. Like my dissapoint with the canon 5d mark IV.

Mind that at the beginning of the "test" video he mentioned that he "spent entire day wrestling to get [...his regular...] camera to work" for 4K   It's obvious that tech is not his strongest side Also he might be using pre-production unit as some early reviewers admitted that their video test is less sharp than others.


I would recommend waiting for reviews from people that know drones / video equipment inside out.

Changing resolution wont help if its out of focus though. I really think its not in focus. I would not expect DJI to put something out with a gaping flaw that big.

Statements from early reviewers might explain some quality inconsistencies / blurry image.

Was it shot in auto if so that's a problem , reducing 4 k or trying to watch 4K video on phones or tablets can also be a problem, I would like to see some footage shot in 1080 60 fps to see what that looks like, I don't think this is a problem with the camera it's the operator.

Check this one out. It is not shot in native 1080p though. It is downscaled 4K rendered in 1080p@60fps.

Yeah I was pretty sure that Casey wasn't quite right with the comparison. Someone ask him to redo the comparison with the Mavic set up properly.

I would be surprised if there was much difference between the two drones in image quality assuming the sensors are the same. I know lenses make a big difference and the P4 has a pretty nice one but let's be honest you can get good 4K with an iPhone 7 with a much smaller lens than a mavic.

My two scents. Unless you are a pro (which you won't be with a P4 - you'll have an Inspire) then the Mavic wins hands down on portability and overall package.

Looking forward to upgrading my P3Pro

That doesn't look to bad, some blurry issues but mostly pretty good ,I think with some knowledge of better settings in manual and some filters this camera will be ok, maybe will need twitching with firmware will also help.

Nooooooooow we are talking !! Anyone in Europe interested in a P4 + 3 batteries + backpack ?

Looking at the specs, P4 vs Mavic should have the same sensor and Mavic got slightly better lens, and from manufacturing point of view DJI should have used the same sensor
Highly unlikely DJI would rewrite the video algo for Mavic, more possible to build from the P4

Set aside the focus issue in Casey's video, I see some of you had been comparing videos under bright sunlight vs videos under cloudy days...that doesn't make any sense...
Purely looking at Casey's video, Mavic does have softer color tone ***Unless he took it very close to sunset and the light dimmed a lot when he shot with Mavic***

Guess DJI won't be making any direct comparison, all we got to do is wait for a fair review and comparison between Mavic & P4, under:
1) Bright light
2) Low light
3) Strong wind
4) Obstacle Test

Cracking video. Yeah Karma is ridiculous on range - like 1km. I had my P3Pro at 4.2km out and I'm excite don't about taking my new Mavic out to 6 or more km. hopefully wind isn't an issue. I'm slightly nervous about a sub 1kg drone in heavy wind. I think in Ireland now you don't need to register it because it's sub 1kg though so upsides lol

I just ordered my first drone. I was waiting since the initial reports showed the image quality issue. After reading seeing the posts today I was sold on the new Mavic Pro. Thank you all!

Also about this;

So essentially DJI says the Phantom 4 does not have the processing power to handle 'this amount of information' as the Mavic processes massive maounts of data with its 24-cores! The P4 is 6 months old so I guess it's only normal to become obsolete and get no new features over firmware updates.
How many cores does the P4 have? What difference is there exactly in processing power?

Mavic Drone Update; apparently the focus works differently on the Mavic.  I played with it and I was able to get much much sharper images.
