I didn't say it didn't I said it may not. We will have to wait for app updates as time goes on to see if anything transfers over.

Correct, it's the same as P4.
It will have open SDK but I don't have any other info than that.

Check out this link for some great info regarding the Mavic Pro.  It was reviewed by Romeo Durscher, the Director of Education at DJI.  He even explained Casey's issue with the sharpness in his videos.  

I too was like many of you.  I purchased my P4 a few weeks ago during Labor Day Weekend and was loving everything about the P4 with the exception of the size.  Once I saw the release of the Mavic, I was at Best Buy that afternoon returning the P4.  After reading some of the reviews and seeing the video quality that some have reported, I thought I just made a huge mistake.  But after doing a little bit more digging, I think I made the right decision.  I really need a more portable drone that can do all the things the P4 can do and DJI hit it out of the ballpark with the Mavic.  I can't wait to receive it in the mail.  The wifey is already trying to book trips and look for places for us to use the drone already.  I think she is more excited than I am

With this new technology you shouldn't have to, BUT still in a heavily congested area there's going to be a ton of interference and range will be limited.

I'm about to buy my first drone. I'm now torn between the mavic or the p4. I do sports photography on a golf resort and would rather have better control in wind and a better quality of picture and video. Portability is not an issue for me. The mavic does look really good and it is a great size but I'd rather get the drone that is more suitable for me. I do t want to spend as much as the inspire costs! But reading all the debates on this forum, I just don't which way to go. Any suggestions out there ? Thanks in advance

dont understand the whinning about the p4. im hoping for a helleva deal on them for black friday.  if not,ill just get the 4 this year and maybe the mavic at a later date if i need something more mobile.

Be happy with the P4, It fits a different segment of the market. The camera is superior to the Mavic. Mavis's key advantage is portability.

With your application, I would suggest the P4.  From all your needs, the P4 would suit you better.  I had the P4 for a few weeks and loved it.  I am switching to the Mavic just because of the portability aspect.  I will be traveling a lot here in the next year or so and the Mavic will suit my needs a lot more than the P4.  Since portability is not an issue for you, the P4 would be hands down my recommendation.  It is an amazing machine!

Did you touch to focus the mavic before flying and recording?  images come out soft if its not touch to focus. Thanks

Can you only use the auto and will it get constant in focus images or do you need to focus it before every flight? Im affraid of all day filming and shooting and then get home to upload and all the footage is soft.

My sentiments exactly...or having my wife haul it around because I have my camera bag to carry. From 2 bags down to one and a happier wife is a plus. lol

I'm pretty sure that once they release the Mavic out to the public, the auto focus thing will be ironed out.  Again, all those pre-released Mavics where not final production models.  Almost like a prototype.  I'm pretty sure DJI is listening to and reading all these issues that people are concerned of with the footage and will have a firmware update before they have them released to the public mid October.  I can't wait for mine to come in.  Right now I have no drone to fly since I returned my P4 the day they made the announcement of the Mavic and I placed my pre-order in that same day.

Here are some additional thoughts on the focus comparisons. The P4 has a wider angle lens with a F2.8 aperture as compared to the Mavic which has a narrower lens with F2.2. Both of those differences cause the mavic to have a shallower depth of field. Lenses with shallower depth of field require that the operator pay much more attention to focus.

I'm sure all of you have seen portrait shots where everything other than the persons face is soft and out of focus (on purpose). Those shots are done with a telephoto lens shot wide open (usually F2.8 or lower). It would be impossible to shoot those portraits with a super wide angle lens since wide lens, even when shot wide open have too much depth of field and everything is somewhat in focus.

The moral of the story is that we will have to pay attention to focus on this drone more so than the P4. I ordered the Mavic hours after the introduction and simply can't wait for its arrival.

Yes it definitely is a very cool and welcomed feature to have manual focus and such a tiny form factor of an aircraft.

I ordered my Mavic Pro but I am concerned with the camera quality. Are you saying that it can achieve same sharper footage quality just like a Phantom 4?

Nice, welcome aboard.

Many of the videos I have seen posted from the Mavic looks soft.  And some comparison videos between the Mavic vs Phantom make the Mavic look very soft.  So all you guys who just bought Phantom 4's...  Don't feel bad.
However most of these poorly focused videos were probably due to operator error.  You have to FOCUS the Mavic camera by tapping on the screen to focus.  I don't think many of the demos on YouTube were properly focused.  Nor to they mention the "tap to focus" feature in the videos.



DJI sould update the firmware so the camera focuses on infinity by default.   That would probably solve most if the issues seen in the early demos.

I agree.  All of the videos look very soft and have hazy look as compared to P3 and P4.

But I think it's due to the fact that many of the early videos posted were not focused.  The Mavic has a tap to focus feature.  The pilot has to tap a spot on the screen to focus the camera.  Fail to focus results in soft videos.  I am willing to be DJI updates the firmware to default to infinity like the P4 lens.

Yes...  I agree.  The new focus feature is cool and most of the early YouTube video reviews were not properly focused.

I might suggest that the firmware be updated so the camera defaults to infinity like the p4 lens.  This would solve the issues for most users who fail to focus.
My Mavic is now on order.  Looking forward to using it.
