Who's idea was it at DJI, to get rid of tablet compatibility with the RC? Very bad move on DJI IMO.
I really wanted to use a tablet together with the RC, I have an iPad Air 2 and mini. The screen size of both and the longer battery compared to an iPhone 5 or 6 was a great +. Yes I know we can only use a tablet without the RC to control the Mavic BUT we get **** range, and I like physically holding joysticks.
Some people have bad eyesight and they need a large screen to look at.
HOPEFULLY you guys will make a controller just for tablets or a accessory that will hold a tablet on the RC, If not I'm gonna be sticking with my P4...
I really hope you guys do not get rid of tablet compatibility with the RC in future drones.
Perhaps it's too early to talk abut this as DJI will maybe mention something about the controller holding a tablet soon.
What do you think?

If we get enough people to request a RC to be able to hold a tablet then DJI may make one!

Now if he put that holder in reverse, it would even be better.  He should have patented the damn thing and made a mint.

The thing is, the form factor of the whole Mavic package is smaller so I can see why they didn't include support for tablets.

The Mavic has been designed as a very compact 'convenient' drone, in other words you can easily take it anywhere in a little bag and you'll almost certainly have your phone with you to use with it.

I am sure there will be some after market solutions as well...

If he turned the tablet around you would then have to hold the controller upside down, left stick would be on your right and so on. The transmitter screen would be turned upside down too. He has it right, and there's enough room to use the sticks. But I do have a question. Is this Mavic system Android friendly? Or do you have to go with IOS ?

He obviously means mounting the tablet bracket the other way round so the tablet hangs down instead of up and above the controller blocking it

The whole point and design of the mavic was for portability and for the people that need that ..

Well, if you think about it, you'll see why it's not included. You put the tablet on top of RC, the center of the weight is in the tablet, put it on bottom of RC, your wrist will touch the screen. Below, above?  Just no comfortable position when the RC is this small.
Your best bet is probably to sit and put the laptop on the ground.

I didn't say its maximum length. It can accommodate phones as big as iPhone 6sp. You can search the dimension online and compare it with your phone

Do you believe DJI could build another RC just for tablets in the future if more requests come for one to be built?

The whole purpose of the dji mavic was to make it compact. i don't want to be hauling around more than I have too. i do wish they would have more of a landing gear for the back.

I was asking for the actual external dimensions of the RC , specifically lower part where the phone fits in !

As long as someone invents a tablet holder strong enough to hold my iPad Air 2 then I'll be ok.

I don't think DJI will come up a iPad mount, but I'm sure plenty of 3rd parties will.
Personally I like using my iPad but with the portability of the Mavic and I'd take it everywhere I go, I'd just use my phone.

I don't know, but with the weight of the mount/holder/iPad Air I wouldn't feel safe.

Since the whole idea is that you don't have to carry much, such as a separate 3 year old phone, just to operate your drone, right?

After all, "works with just your phone" doesn't make much sense if you have to buy and carry another phone, does it Ken?

I'm talking about how "Please use one of these old, outdated Android phones on this old list" isn't really an option, seeing as it's supposed to work with the actual modern phone in your actual pocket - you know, like a Samsung S7?

The Samsung S7 that has issues with the GO app is 100% Samsung's issue and DJI has urged Samsung to fix it.
Someone did say that they got a patch from Samsung on their S7 last night and the Go app is working correctly now. I do not have a S7 so I don't know if that is the case or not.

Question, do you guys think that a sunshade could be added on the stock setup with a phone ? because the only way i see that happen is with a mount like that

I desperately hope DJI will make a second controller just for tablets.
DJI should just use the P4 controller design and just add all the new upgrades the Mavic RC has to the P4 controller design, .change the RC color to black and there you go a perfect tablet controller for the Mavic...  if that won't happen then I really hope I'll be able to buy a after market tablet holder that will be strong enough to hold my iPad Air and mini.

YES! That would be a great idea. I wouldn't mind paying $200-400 for a Mavic RC designed like the P4 RC just so it can hold an IPad Air 2 it would not be hard to make either, just change the transmission and all the other stuff the Mavic RC has and I would be okay if it did not have that built in flight data screen.

How about larger tablets? If some third parties devolved a strong enough holder for larger heavier tablets like an iPad Air do you think it would be safe?

I think a full size iPad would put too much downforce on the holder clamps of the RC and it would fall out.
I'm sure someone will create a clamping device that holds an iPad to the RC not only by the RC's clamps.
But it may be awkward flying with it.
