How about larger tablets? If some third parties devolved a strong enough holder for larger heavier ...

I think a full size iPad would put too much downforce on the holder clamps of the RC and it would fall out.
I'm sure someone will create a clamping device that holds an iPad to the RC not only by the RC's clamps.
But it may be awkward flying with it.

I'll just stick with my phone. Goes better with the whole portability ideal of the Mavic.

I agree 100%. And that's what this whole system was meant for (portability)

I'm going to have to buy an iPhone for this setup. Is there a way to get an iPhone 6 that is just for wifi...on the cheap?

I think all iPhones have data, but you can find a used one and just not add it to your account and only use WiFi.

Right now I'm flying my phantom 4 on the cheapest setup possible and it absolutely blew my mind. A Samsung xcover3. Basically an ultra tough, waterproof, shockproof, drop proof Samsung that's old school by now. It worked so well that I even stopped using my shield. No lag, no heat, no crashes, flawless. All for a fraction of the cost of the equipment that is usually discussed around these parts.

WOW, I can't believe that's working with the GO app, that's awesome.

I wonder if this guy is holding the iPad with his hand or did he find a way for it to hold onto the controller?

Yeah. I can't complain. Mind you, I did have an excellent experience with both a Google Nexus 7 that withstood at least 5 drops onto concrete and asphalt, and then a shield for a bit. But the shield was too large for my needs. Really, so was the Nexus. I wanted a good, honest, tough as nails phone I could go swimming with. Something that could be dropped without worries. Over 200 flights later, this cheap Xcover 3 hasn't crashed or even got warm once. I highly recommend it.

I just looked at the specs and that is a pretty good device, $320 right now is what it says.

As soon as I have my Mavic in Hands, I will build a holder for my tablet.
To many items on a phone screen and we will see everything but unreadable.
In the picture my tablet holder for the Lightbridge FPV and the Telemetry via 433 MHz.

Oh boy.  Not what I wanted to hear.  First my Note 7 gets recalled and have to trade for a new one, then that one is recalled and pulled off the market so I have an S7 Edge now.  Now I buy a top end drone that who knows if I'll even get this year and find out my phone will not work with it?

I don't think dji had in mind tablet support because the whole concept of the mavic is to be compact that is why the RC has a bunch of useful informations.

Like Ken said, there's bound to be a flurry of 3rd party manufacturers producing either universal solutions like the 3D printed adapter and clamp or possibly even device specific tablet cases that have a step down ledge at the back to allow the RC to clamp on them.  On the subject of portability, it's too bad DJI didn't keep that concept in mind when developing the FPV goggles.

That is correct, but there are already people 3D printing a holder so you can use a iPad Mini..

Thor, 6.5 to 8.5 seems to only accommodate the thinnest of phones. I have looked into a lot of the mid priced Android based phones, and most of them seem to be a few millimeters thicker than 8.5. Is the upper limit of 8.5 mm a hard limit, or is there a bit of wiggle room.

But to close it out, I use an iPad Air 2, was held on by rubber bands up until a few days ago, now using a great little tablet holder that I am loving.

No. They did on the earliest Mavic controllers that were sent out, but if you bought yours in the past 5-6 months and try too hard to remove your controller sticks you'll probably break them.

That was an old post I made (Just deleted it) and the design was changed early on and the sticks are no longer removable.
