Springs and memory metal have their twist built in.

Could you even compress one long enough to deform its shape?
Put a spring in a vice, clamp it closed and wait... Let us know. . . ;-)

I have a phantom 3 so no springs but I'll say it like this one there they are replaceable. Think of anything in the world that has a spring from your car to your lawn mower the auto recoil that pulls the string back in is a spring do you have to release the spring every time you use it or it loses tension of course not
