Osmo+ is there a way to lock the focus? I really can't stand doing a slow pan and seeing the autofocus kick-in, drift around, right in the middle of it, wrecking the entire thing. I really need a way to lock the focus, preferably at infinity or at the hyperfocal distance. Can you (DJI) tell me a way to turn off autofocus for the Osmo+ in the DJI Go app? If this is not in the app anywhere, it needs to be added in a firmware upgrade very soon, because pros don't always use autofocus, and autofocus can destroy otherwise great video footage! It makes my footage look all amateur-ish.

I'm struggling with focus too, but I had the impression that autofocus doesn't work in the M or S mode. I sometimes don't notice on the small phone screen that a shot is completely out of focus, but it appears that I have to manually point on the screen to let the focus kick in , instead of the Osmo autofocussing the shot automatically. Either way, we should be able to choose auto or manual I think!

Just did some testing and it seems that it is actually never autofocussing? It just focusses on any point you touch in the screen, so I guess that AF is not the right word at all for this feature...
If you guys say it's actually losing focus during a recording, how did you get it to auto-focus in the first place?

I can't stop mine from autofocusing, and from what you describe, neither can you. I can tap to focus anywhere in the image area, but that will not stick for more than a few seconds. Then it goes off autofocusing again. It does autofocus again on the same spot where I touched, but it is supposed to be locked on that point, not re-analizing and refocusing every few seconds. What possible logic would that make? As such, it messes up every attempt I make at recording a smooth pan on any subject matter.

It is official (as per Bob at DJI online chat), there is no way to shut-off auto focus on an Osmo+. So I need to return it. Sad, I love so many things about it. But they clearly didn't intend it for anyone but amateurs. Everyone should carefully consider the fact that auto-focus is full-time on the Osmo+ before buying. If they had included this very basic feature that every professional and semi-pro needs, I would not have to return it and all the accessories I purchased. I'm profoundly disappointed in DJI's Osmo+ design team for not seeing that manual focus or focus lock is badly needed on any product with auto-focus.

If they dont fix this i can throw it in the garbage. Tried a motion timelapse and its ruin the timelapse. It should also have the option to save the raw files in timelapse mode.

YES YES YES, I have mentioned and asked for this feature on this forum since the day after I got my OSMO+ with no answer from DJI. I am very disappointed, I really hope they add this feature... please DJI add a focus lock at infinity!

EVERY motion time-lapse I have done is screwed up.  It NEVER focuses where I want it to.

UGH.  I bought this thing plus $200 in accessories.  Are they serious with this focusing thing?  Does NO ONE test their products before shipping??

Hi, in DJI GO, gimbal setting, there should be an option to turn off AF.
Does that help?

Perhaps I am missing something but I don't have that option in DJI app, even when selecting advanced options.  Anyone find it?

Not with the Osmo+, I looked everywhere. Then Bob at DJI online chat confirmed that there is no way to shut off auto focus.

Why would a camera setting be in the gimbal settings? Anyway, it is not there.

Do you guys know the difference between one-shot autofocus and continuous autofocus at all?
I guess unless we all have different hardware , there is a huge misunderstanding about what the Osmo+ can do...as far as I have tested, mine does NOT do continuous autofocus, so the focal distance should not change at all unless you touch the screen.

This thread is actually the only reason why I doubt if my Osmo+ is okay, but if my observations are correct, there is no need to shut off the autofocus since it doesnt do stuff 'automatically' at all, it only focusses ONCE at the moment you touch the screen.  Of course if you point your Osmo at something else it SEEMS that is not focussing correctly but thats because you should touch the screen AGAIN to focus on something that is at another distance to the camera.
Another possibilty is that there are 2 versions of the DJI GO app, I am using the Android 2.9.1 version , but someone at DJI told me the autofocus could be turned off and on in the bottom left side of the screen. My app doesn't have any buttons there, only the 'play' button....

Can someone please confirm or deny my observations?

Marcel

So what does the "focus when gimbal stops" switch actually do?

Yes, I do know the difference, I taught photography at the college level for over two decades, and have been a very successful freelance photographer for longer than that. My Osmo+ would not stay focused on where I tapped. If I panned or pointed the camera elsewhere, the focus would simply do it's own thing immediately. From what others are saying, this is what everyone but you has experienced. I wish I would have gotten your Osmo+ Marcel, you got the only one that works right ;-)  DJI online chat confirmed that it's focus could not be locked or held in place, that it was indeed continuous autofocus. I tried the "focus when gimbal stops" switch in both positions, and there was no change, it always just refocused whenever what was at the center of the frame changed. Other than that, there is no setting which can lock focus or make it one-shot autofocus.

Hopefully they can just add the manual control option that gives the onscreen control like on the X5, the feature is already in the code they just need to enable it for the Z3 camera. Then we can also do some cool focus effects. For those wondering it's the slider control on the right.

And never buy anything direct from DJI. I got an RMA (which they made very difficult) from DJI for my Osmo+. I carefully repackaged and returned after just 6 days, and the tracking number shows that they got it on Oct 12, now it's the 26th and I still have no refund! The person (Marie F at DJI support-US) supposedly handling the return stopped answering my emails the day they got it back. Seriously? Anybody from DJI want to get me my refund now?

Where do you see this? I see no such settings. Only "focus when gimbal stops". It should allow us to decrease the delay however, because it can take 3-5 seconds to focus.

Update; I called DJI today, they acknowledge that they have received the return and all is satisfactory. DJI's Lillian say that there is a refund "in the works" as DJI-Thor promised, but it will take up to 15 days (from November 4th) to process. I have no idea why it would take that long but I will update this thread if I see the refund by November 20th or not.
