I pre ordered the Mavic pro on sept 27th. I also own a P4 which I was using my s7 with until I got a samsung tab s2 9.6 inch a few weeks back which besides clicking a few settings to get it to connect has worked pretty good. Now I hear the Samsung s7 doesnt work with the P4 or Mavic at that. Which I was planning on using my S7 with my mavic when it arrives. Since I know my tabs s2 wont fit using the mavic what do you guys suggest I do? I dont want the mavic to arrive and me not have a device to use it with. Thanks everyone in advanced

There is always the chance that DJI or Samsung will release a software update that will address this issue before you ever see your Mavic arrive.

But I can tell you that from prior experience using Phantom Drones...  iOS devices always seem more stable with the DJI Go app.  (That's just my own experience.)  I own an Nvidia Shield tablet...  But I prefer to use my iPhone or iPad due to the stability.  (In my own experience.)

I would definitely go for a used  iPhone 6 or newer.  The larger screen & faster processor make a difference.

Drone maker DJI's new Apple partnership inspired by customer crossover
By Neil Hughes
Wednesday, March 02, 2016, 09:47 am PT (12:47 pm ET)

The majority of people who buy a DJI product are already invested in the Apple ecosystem, and use Apple devices to control, shoot and edit aerial footage from DJI drones, making the new partnership between the two companies a natural fit.

somebody please tell me this is not a directive of Apple to DJI to stuff up the DJI Go app on all android devices????? starting with the Samsung S7?

The GO app works just fine on Android. The S7 issue is a Samsung issue and not a DJI issue. DJI has already been in contact and has urged them to remedy this.

I'm switching from iOS to Samsung S7E but also have an old Samsung Note 3 and a beat up iPhone 5 (non S version).

Among these phones which will be the most stable for Mavic?

Some people reported crashes when used with S7.

I will get S7 this Friday so want to get the facts right.

Hi all, I was hoping to get some clarification on a few things:

1) What actual phone and models work great with the Mavic Pro - is it possible to share a list ?

2) Do you need to have a phone tariff / 3G/4G signal to be able to use your phone as a controller for the Mavic Pro?

The reason being is that I have a Samsung S7 edge and from all the issues I've heard about I might not even bother trying it and get a smaller, cheaper phone (without a sim) that can be used as a controller.

Grateful for the clarification if possible, and a list of compatible phones would help so I can browse around,

Thanks

Andrew

Thanks Ken, much appreciated.

It's probably a silly question but its good to be sure - to be able to connect a device as a controller you don't need a sim or cell network (3G/4G) or internet connection. you just connect via internal wifi between device and dji product right?

That's correct, you just need a internet connect for the first time so you can register the aircraft.
If you want to show up at a field and have map view you will need internet or cell connection.
You can cache the map area you will be flying at home while you have internet so when you get to the field you'll have the map view.

Sorry Ken, in terms of the Google nexus 7 II (is that the 2nd generation) ? as I've noticed the Google Nexus tabs aren't identified as I and II, I'm guessing its the 2nd generation version. If so, then I already may already have one (not sure which generation I have but I'm sure I can check) and would just need to update the android version

I do not have an S7, I have a S6. There were reports that the GO app wan't functioning correctly with the S7 and the phone kept rebooting. DJI R&D department has urged Samsung to fix the issue.
There's other apps that are not functioning correctly on the S7 as well.
I do not have a S7 so cannot confirm if Samsung has resolved it.
And just to be clear, it has nothing to do with DJI, but an issue with Samsung.

Here's a better thread for you to post in and there's several others experiencing the same thing.

DJI Ken please tell us what others apps do not work on the S7? I have none! except for DJO Go and the apps that depend on DJI go e.g. Litchi
In all the world there is no one that can fix this problem for us in the past 5 weeks? We have expensive DJI drones that we can not fly.

Hi Ken, I've finally pre-ordered the DJI Mavic Pro and intend on using the Nexus II with it. You mentioned about needing an internet connection at least for caching the map/area you intend on flying. If I used my normal HTC phone as a hotspot, could I technically then use the Nexus to have internet connection on the fly so I don't have to worry about needing a cell etc?

Yes, you can use your phone as a hotspot to load the maps when you get to your flying area. That's the easiest way.

I haven t and I can t take another device to 500 euros  to flight the mavic

It s not my job to buy something else to see if it s work
It s your job.

Dji it s a big compagny
I think some test on s7 before the out of mavic was not a problem

Its just business
Many clients have this problem and since october you say you haven t a s7 but tou think the problem will be resolve soon
But 3 months after may be more, no result

Why?
It s a question of money with samsung or apple?
You can t help or make not the clients who have a s7 or s7E happy?
You prefer the client searchs (and perhaps founds) a solution to your place?

I've been using my Samsung Galaxy S7 with my Mavic since I received it... I've only had one app crash when running DJI Go 3.0.1, no issues so far with DJI Go 4..  I've also tried the Wifi mode with the Mavic from my Samsung Galaxy S7, and it connects without any problems.  I've never tried flying with Wifi mode as I find that the controls are too imprecise, and prefer using the Radio Controller for greater range and better control.
