Is it possible to view and import files stored on the Mavics SD card over its WiFi saving the hassle of connecting the controller ?

I don't think so, I can try tomorrow in WiFi mode.
Better just to use a SD card adapter to your Android/IOS phone.

The Apple iOS card reader is annoying because you have to import the files to be able to view in full screen. The card reader seems to add another 3 steps, remove card from the Mavic, attach card reader to phone/tablet, then import images to view.
It would be great to flick it into WiFi mode and look at the images on the phone/tablet and import, delete them from there as needed. No cables, no mess and have the Mavic in your backpack while doing it.

I'll try it in a bit, but also even if it does work downloading full resolution photo/photo will be way faster by removing the SD card and using an adapter.

Just tried it, it will transfer the full resolution photos in WiFi mode. Videos will not transfer in WiFi mode, you need to be in regular mode.

If I understand this correctly, the Mavic has the SD Card in it's body, not in the camera itself like on the P3. All videos and images are sent to the SD card and then can be transferred to your computer or cell phone.

Correct, the SD card slot is in the aircraft body.
And with the aircraft powered on you can transfer the full resolution photos to your tablet/phone in WiFi mode. In regular mode with the RC you can transfer photos and videos.

Yes if your laptop has a micro SD reader, if not then put the micro SD card into the adapter and put it into your laptop. This is by far the most most efficient way to do it.

Using a WiFi connection to transfer 4K video files is painfully slow.  I am not that patient.  I just pluck the SD card out and transfer it directly to a card reader plugged into my editing machine.  It's like 100 times faster to transfer direct from SD than it is to Wait for WiFi...

I was really only thinking of looking at photos on the go. IE having the Mavic in a backpack with WiFi on and a Phone/Tablet in hand looking at the shots I just took, all while on the go. Instead of having a controller and a phone connected to it which look a little dorky while walking around
