Well, at least it isn't white like my Phantom, which can be lost to sight against clouds real easy, I would think the darker color will stand out better, we will see.

With the arms folded out it 's not much smaller than a P3 or P4.  And it's a dark color which will stand out much better against the sky.

Very true and good point. Now for one thing I know the mavic can handle wind as well if not actually better than the phantom 4.

personally i think its too small, but then again it's ideal for traveling or people who are on the go and dont want to carry a gigantic backpack. I like the size of the P4. But for me, i rather have something compact thats not a burden to lug around. There are videos on youtube that shows Mavic is slightly more stable compared to P4. I live in California, so most of my flights with the P4 is out of sight. we dont have many open space areas nearby.

The Mavic actually does pretty well in wind. And as far as seeing it 200 yards away, I can tell you that it's harder to see than a Phantom. When I flew some distance I did have a hard time seeing it's orientation. Plus it's so flat as well and that also makes it hard to see when far away.

But may be to small .................

It's small folded up.  When flying it's almost the same wingspan (rotor to rotor) as a P4.  And it's a dark color so it may stand out better against the sky.

I don't have great eyes and I have to admit that I can see the P4 better than the Mavic.
BUT, the Mavic is the absolute best thing out there for my use.

Thanks so much

I'm looking for this kind of videos , with real test ,

looks that both do the same job but the p4 has better anti shake gimbal , if you see in the test the magic live video shakes a little bit more than the p4  but definitely can fight the wind ,

do you have more videos abut range test speed stuff to check ,  i think that I'm going to get the mavic
any suggestion ?

Hi  Ken ,

This Mavic looks amazing !!!

Yes it will do just fine in the wind.
It's harder to see than a Phantom, but since you are pretty much only into long distance FPV the Mavic will be great for you

Drones must be kept within "line of sight".
This does NOT mean that you have to be able to actually SEE the drone. It means that there must be no obstruction between the operator and the drone.
Seeing a 198mm (8 inch) fuselage at a range of 7Km (4.3 miles)?  Steve Austin peering through Hubble couldn't achieve that!

Yes, it is the same as your Phantom, limited to 500m above takeoff point.

It's set from the aircraft and the default is 120m, but you can change it to a max of 500m.
You can go up 500m from your takeoff point.

so that was my question, in theory if I fly up a big hill from my take off point will the drone run aground when it reaches 500m? or likewise if I'm at 500m altitude already and fly it off a 100m cliff edge will the drone suddenly drop 100m or would it have a new relative altitude of 600m?

Why would it run aground if you climb to 500m. It will simply not allow you to go any higher.
And if you climb up a mountain no matter how high it is limited to 5,000msl) and you fly off the cliff it will simply hover there and your free to fly it as you choose.

The MAVIC is the best looking drone I have ever seen.

The Mavic is really cool looking (can't wait to get mine). It's way better looking than the Phantom line. However, I think the Inspire 1 Black Edition with the landing gear in the up position looks the best.

Can I ask to please stop this... this Mavic talk.  It is  just not fair making jealous people going ... green.  And for those of us with not so strong will power, being tempted to click that "Buy Now" button... and then have to live with the guilt of not telling because you just can't... you borrowed your 6 week old P4's money from the Mrs...  So please.  (Ok I confess - I need one and I'm going to get one...  Well, I confess again, I lied - I bought one.  ARE YOU SATISFIED NOW??)  :-)

Drones must be kept within "line of sight".
This does NOT mean that you have to be able to actually  ...

In the USA you have to be able to see the aircraft... this is because of See And Avoid requirements.

You must keep your drone within sight. Alternatively, if you use First Person View or similar technology, you must have a visual observer always keep your aircraft within unaided sight (for example, no binoculars). However, even if you use a visual observer, you must still keep your unmanned aircraft close enough to be able to see it if something unexpected happens.

This is just a quick reference.... however in the full text of part 107 it goes into great detail of why this is law.

In short you have the responsibility to yield ROW to any other aircraft and since FPV cannot satisfy See and Avoid requirements.... you better be able to see the craft without any other aids other then corrective lenses.
