I am just about to get my Inspire back from DJI following it being repaired under warranty when it simply fell from the sky. I am still trying to ascertain from DJI what happened but being a realist if it can happen once then it could happen again. Has anyone any experience of parachute recovery sysytems and if so what would they suggest?
Your help would, as always, be much appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry to hear that Helipilot, there are a few post on here about parachutes. I installed the Mars 58 with the Mayday is fully autonomous and is powered by a 1 cell Li-po battery, I also have this setup on my P3P except for the smaller Mars V2. I have hundreds of flights on both without any issues and hoping I never will. Mainly got this for safety from falling full speed out of the sky, property damage, etc plus hoping to save it from major damage just in case. Kind of expense but has given me more peace of mind. Hope your Inspire gets repaired and back quickly. Best of luck!

Do you have it connected so that the drone falls in an upright manner and if so does that mean the camera and gimbal will hit the ground first??? Can you install it so that the drones falls upside down thus the motors/props hit first protecting the camera/gimbal?

The chute has a para cord that attaches to the chute and then attaches to the Inspires aluminum frame, this is where they suggest to attach it due to the weight of the Inspire and sturdiness of the aluminum bracket. Of course you need to kill the motors as soon as possible. The way the chute is tied, the Inspire will touch down on its side and either lay on its top or on its feet. I will attach a picture so you know what I mean.

Great solution and although kinda pricey at $630, that is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of someone or something getting hurt in the event of a failure.  This could also be a device that could be used when applying for an FAA waiver to fly directly above people.

And at 88g total weight, it will likely have a just a marginal impact on flight times.

Can you comment on flight times and any changes in aircraft handling characteristics.

Sharif0, I've only been flying down to around 50% battery and have been getting around 8-9 minutes of flight time and somewhat full speed at times. As far as the flight characteristics it flys as it did without the chute installed. Like you said it's kind of a peace of mind thing just in case something were to happen, hitting someone or someone's property is the last thing I want to happen.
