I have State Farm but it only covers the cost of the drone. Liability is covered thru home owners.

Check with AMA for RC planes.
I don't know if drones are included but I assume they are.
I do know they have high liability insurance coverage.

I went the AMA join route for the exemption and insurance.  They do cover drones...

And it doesn’t matter if you fly an airplane, helicopter, park flyer, multirotor, quadcopter, sUAS, FPV, DIY drone or even an aerial robot. Just join the AMA, fly for recreational fun and operate within the AMA National Model Aircraft Safety Code1 and you’re good to take off."

Thanks everyone!! been finding a lot more offers..Orangeinsurance.com is still looking pretty good but I do have a bit more research ahead. I am looking for commercial liability but not a big time operation yet.
$800 - $1500us seems to be going rate. (per drone kinda sucks..)

Remember when you fly into a crowd or a plane and end up at the receiving end of a huge liability claim, just say you lost control, not you were trying to set a new distance or altitude record.

This seems like a interesting business model for sure!! I would add this if I thought they would come through, my concern is .5 mile radius and how easy it is to add a stray waypoint in litchi....grrrr

( I would pay out of pocket in most situations even with insurance..) Just hoping to move up a couple notches and start working with the type of client that will require insurance. cheers Darrin

I think you must fly at an approved AMA flying site. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm happy to answer any questions on the insurance side of things.

Rates start at $800/year for $1,000,000 liability including $5,000 medical.
Hull insurance is 7-10% of the value.
5% deductible.

I think many on here are talking about two different types of insurance.
Lets state which type of insurance you want or are speaking of.

AMA has liability coverage ($2.5 million) for $38 per year.
It covers the people and things you crash into.
Not damage to your drone.

From what I see Orange covers both for $800.
But like auto insurance it has deductibles and the damage to your drone is covered at 10% of the CURRENT value.
Not what you paid for it.
I' guessing if you bought a current and new drone for $1000 and crashed it the same day they would pay:
$1000 * 10%= $100 Minus another $5. For a check total of $95. Woohoo I can replace it with a kite and some string!

Replacing the drone, and or a window, car wreck (or worse) and medical costs is another thing to consider. 1-2 million in liability may not be enough..cost of drone is insignificant.
10% -$500 - $800 add $1000 so Drone will cost $2300 first crash!! Chance of damage to surrounding is low..but that one in a million shot could be costly. It's all about the cost of business and finding the sweet spot. Right now illegal opperations have a huge edge..
