It's been almost 2 months and I'm truly curious how many folks are going out there to see what the business side of this industry has to offer in these early days.

Nice! How long did it take to arrive? I just submitted everything through the IACRA website on Wednesday and am wondering how long it will take to arrive...

Wow! That's insane...alright. Well, I'm happy I took it now!

The temporary license is just the simple form that I filled out on the IACRA site, right?

For those that have their Part 107 and are working, what have you done about insurance? We are paying a little over a grand a year for coverage.

Yes. You can access the temporary when you log into IACRA that you can print out for the time being.

I will be working for an agricultural company in the spring of next year and they have their own insurance and drones. I fly my Inspire as a hobby and don't plan to have my own business so I can't help you there.

I have been flying under a 333 waiver before Part 107 and now am licensed under 107. I am an aerial videographer. We carry insurance and it is about a grand a year. Factor in needing to own more than one drone as a back-up, many batteries, insurance and have the skills to actually make something look decent, the editing software, making a living with a drone is hard work. Now, factor in all the folks who will fork out a thousand for a Phantom and go get a license and then do the old give it away to get exposure routine, I'm rather skeptical that I would recommend one to go make the investment with the expectation of making a living at it.  Even if you are flying as a hobby, it is important to know that most homeowner or general liability policies exclude damage caused by an aircraft, so I think it is important to have some sort of insurance that covers RC aircraft unless one has the cash in the bank to self insure.  It's part of the overhead, but my clients require me to carry insurance.

I work with commercial real estate and most of the companies have specific rules, which include insurance requirements, for hiring drone operators. The drone will be an add on so it's not a make or break issue but I agree, coming in cold would be rough right now. Based on the quotes I got, I'm starting to think the insurance companies just picked $1,000 as a good starting point and will adjust from there as they have more data to base it on. Zero chance it will go down over time.

I applied for the 333 back in May. Got an email about a month ago that basically stated stop waiting, as it was just an interim set of rules and Part 107 will be the norm.

Its for any purpose that can be considered commercial.  Not necessarily specifically for profit.  You need one even if its just an extension of an existing business, or as the FAA says "the furtherance of a business."

Thanks for all the responses on the poll. Taking this as a sample, it looks like about 75% of Inspire owners are going to be turning their birds into work horses.
