[size=14.6667px]Hello,
[size=14.6667px]Today i was a very lucky man still having my drone at the end of the day was a success. I decided to go filming in the Abandoned powerplant and the factory near it using the phantom 4. I did get some great shot, one of them is already online:

[size=14.6667px]

however, once i decided to enter the factory, my drone started showing magnetic errors, and kept switching between GPS and ATI mode which led to my drone crashing and almost falling like 5m deep into the darkness that was filled with water a little.

did any of you had problem flying indoors with the phantom?

Yes, flying indoors with a medium sized drone can have its challenges.

So, You must learn to fly in ATTI mode, before having a catastrophe. You were lucky the damaged drone wasn't actually much worse.

Please be more careful, once you get the repair done...

That my friend was a bad assed video though...Could have been right out of Star Wars. Indoor flying is best left to micro drones.  Fun to zip around but don't break stuff when you crash.

The issue isn't just that you were indoors.
You have no GPS because your Phantom loses its view of the sky.
Without GPS it is reliant on the compass to be able to fly straight.
But the factory is made of steel and the earth's normal magnetic field is severely distorted inside so your compass is useless and your drone can't follow your control inputs.
All the atti flying practice in the world won't help you when your compass can't be relied on.
Your flying location is not a good place to fly any DJI drone and you stand a good chance of crashing if you try it again.

I fully agree, and the Mavic will not do any better either, as it relies on the same sensors.

Maybe you are right, the factory did contain lots of metals, and the drone did make a lot of dust, could have brought the sensors confused maybe, because i have flown inside before but never crashed.
once that footage is online i'll share.

Yes .. you've flown inside before, but not in a steel box that screws up your compass.
That's completely different.
To see what the Phantom has to deal with try going back with a hand compass and see what it does to that.

Sorry to hear about the crash, but the footage you got was really nice. Thanks for sharing that. I would agree with labroides in that the metal from the factory had messed with the unit's compass, and would most likely cause another crash if reattempted.

This seems pretty legit, thanks for sharing that. The background music they chose does give the whole event a very Mario Kart like feel.

I don't walk to talk down to the mavic, because its a great device, but it think it will perform worse then the P4, because he could have put the switch on atti manualy on the controller so the compass will be off, if i understand/interpret it correctly the switch was on P, so the compass wil remain active as the mavic will go to atti mode, but the compass is still there, or could someone of DJI tell me if the mavic will go to atti the compass will be disabled as well, like when you switch the P4 controller to A ? Genuine question

You can install a higher quality camera on it, for FPV if you choose.
Picking up some parts and CA at the hobby shop today, and heard a couple of the staff talking about: Who's turn it was to borrow the Tiny Whoop? ... "Check the List".

No ... Switch to atti and your Phantom ignores GPS data but still uses the compass.
Take your Phantom indoors and away from windows and it loses GPS and automatcally switches to atti.
That would happen exactly with the Mavic too.
No GPS and you are in atti without any switching but your Phantom still depends on the compass.
It can't fly straight without it..

Yes, they would be good for that purpose, provided there is enough light, for the camera.
There may be a compatable bracket or mount coming soon that will hold a Lume Cube, on a Mavic.
http://www.lumecube.com/164.html

But I don't know how small you can go with micro drones, that will still carry the 1/4 lb weight, comfortably.
