I don't see anything in the manual about this, but it was said to be a feature. I can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas?

Ah glad I found this.
Would have broken my Joysticks trying to unscrew them to fit in the case. So the are fixed and not to be removed. Good to Know.

It's really bad now.. it doesn't even enter inside his bag (the joystick touches the side and moves.. with the time the spring can get some memory on that side).

Do they screw out at all, is the length at least adjustable?

Why did they not just leave them as removable? Seems a backward step in design to me.

I also fell uncomfortable stuffing the control into a bag with a non neutral position for the sticks. I used the foam case form the battery, cut it to the size of the controller, and cut two holes in which I insert the sticks. The sticks are then stable and stay in position.  Not pretty, but works great.  I'm sure someone will come up with a custom protection sleeve

Just pull and they come out very easily. There's no screw or anything. Highly recommended for storage!

Yes, but you were not actually supposed to break them off!

Seriously? Yours pop out?

I was actually hoping that they would keep that as a feature, so that they could be upgraded from plastic to aluminum, and possibly have adjustable length, like those on the P4 controller.

I'd love to be able to fit some adjustable length sticks, or even just some longer sticks to increase the precision that can be acheived....

Yes, they just come right out when you pull. I store them in the mesh part of the Combo bag right above where the transmitter and drone go.

Hmm.. interesting. I guess maybe you got one of the older units before they changed the design? That or the DJI person above is incorrect? I'll have one tomorrow, I'll see if mine can be removed.

Mine do not come out like that... I do not want to put in more force - afraid to break it.

Just checked mine.  There is no way they are coming out easily.  I'm pulling on them as hard as I dare, and they don't budge...

Maybe this explains why there are a few with the MECH ERROR issue where the sticks are not registering dead centre when released. Some of these have caused crashes and loss of control. DJI could of made a few variants with the controller. If you are concerned, use the simulator to test your controller.

Can everyone post up there controller version/serial number and mention if their sticks are removable or not.
I know in the P3A/P range there was GL300a/b/c. It could be the same case here.

My Mavic also doesn't have removable sticks, which is very disappointing - it makes a nontrivial difference to the size of the sleeve required for the controller.  I've been discussing it with DJI support directly, & they keep going back and forth about whether it's supposed to be removable or not.  Seems to be extremely disorganized / poor communication within the company...

If you like, I can see about exchanging your RC to the production version RC.

How would we distinguish production from an earlier version?  Anything different in the model or serial number?

Hilarious. They are sending out pre-production equipment to the early orders.

It may very well have been this way for the very first few of production versions and then changed. I don't work in R&D so I don't know.

As my above post stated, versions are changing all the time, the removable sticks could have been the very first production version then changed after some orders were sent out.
On the Phantom, the 2nd version of the P3 got different motors and centerboard.
On the Mavic I do not know what differences may have been or will be.

I think DJI just wanted to avoid future complaining that the sticks are loose or even lost.
Obviously, removable sticks are great but it will be loose over the time and may be dropped out without knowing it.

You can put the contoller in sitting diagonal with the sticks facing the corner and they then stay neutral.  I didnt like the fact they were off center either and figured out this solution.

It's what I'm doing already.. but the controller won't stay diagonal for long. I also have the two additional batteries in the outside pockets that does additional pressure on the side, so this solution isn't working good. Another option would be to place some custom caps over them.

yeah the caps might be a solution.  I found that the 2 batteries fit in the front pocket and then that makes it a little looser fit for the mavic and controller instead of having them on the sides.

I'm not asking what features existed or will exist in the future in the controllers.  I'm asking if there's a way to identify (ie, model number) if we got a controller that isn't the production model.  Most companies have a different part number if the object was changed in any way.  Is there a way I can look at the serial number or model number and identify if I have the current model of the controller?

My model number is GL200A - I have removable sticks!

I very much doubt there is already a "B" version out. I have a feeling that everyone has the GL200A and all sticks are removable. The exception being that some have simply been pushed in really hard during production and hence are a lot harder to remove. From what we know from DJI they are not region specific so the model number should not change with regards to this.

So, anyone have a different model number to GL200A?

No metal, no magnets, the hole does NOT go all the way through to the controller. It is a molded hole.
Well, I think the sticks themselves are an alloy anyway but there is no additional metal etc...
