Came across this today, not sure how vulnerable some dji stuff is, if at all. http://lifehacker.com/build-your-own-wi-fi-drone-disabler-with-a-raspberry-pi-1788316268

Assuming it gets past any encryption the older dji models might have, Wifi has pretty limited range so the "hacker' would need to be fairly close to the pilot for this to work. Anything newer than the P3 standard no longer uses wifi.

That still leaves an awful lot of drones at risk. Was more the fact it was laid out for people that concerned me so posted it here so people would be aware. But like so many people have WPS on their routers, even though ir makes their routers SO easy to hack.

Yes, it does, and this is very concerning.  Amazing what some people will do these days.  Not sure why someone would want to this other than be a jerk.  Assuming one could catch them, they would be responsible for damages, among other things far too numerous to mention here.  Depends how aggressive a prosecutor wanted to get.

There are some videos on youtube with a raspberry pi attached to a phantom that can hack a parrot drone, they talked about getting it to follow the hackers drone, pretty funny

Since we have to register with the FAA, same as a private plane, but can't fly above 400ft. We still have the right to fly in the sky within our limits. Someone taking down your drone should be liable to a suit I'd think. All one would need is a good lawyer, or the FAA stepping in and fining the people that take down the drone.

I was thinking that's a great way to get sued and thrown in jail if your lucky...Or having someone stomp 1300$ out of your @$$ if your not lucky enough to have a law officer close to escort you out. Southern California isn't all as laid back as you'd think.

It's not really all that scary.  It isn't actually happening.
Have you ever heard of anyone hijacking a drone?
It's extremely unlikely.
How would that work?
Hijack guy would have to be criusing, looking for wifi drones to commandeer.
And how many times have you been out and spotted a drone?
He's also have to be in range and have his gear ready to activate before the drone he's spotted comes home.

Why is it there?
Because someone saw the intellectual challenge to work out how it might work.
Not because there are drone pirates out there looking for obsolete wifi drones to steal.

I come across compromised access points all the time, mainly consumer or ISP supplied equipment. I also enjoy pentesting systems. But if there's the possibility, it is scary and we need to be aware.
