Hi,

Received the Mavic Pro bundle today. Whenn I was flying in direct direction toward the sunset, up 130 feet, the Mavic stopped suddenly, loud beeping noise hovered and wond't move forward saying there is an obstacle???.

I tried to move forward but it won't move kept saying there is an obstacle. I turned 5 degrees to the left and then it start flying again. Then I turned back towrard the sun and it suddenly stopped again, lloud beep and saying obstable ahead.

Did anyone experienced that phenomenom???

I have P3 AND P4 and I take a lot of sunset videos and pictures but this never happend to me before???

Thx

In the manual it states drastic lighting changes can effect it.
You can try a sensor calibration from the Assistant2 if you want.

Ken,

Thx for the response. I was up 133 feet in the air, clear sky, no wind, plain field and sunlight so It seems to me that the sunlight was the culprit because when I flew facing the sun it stopped when I turned few degrees, left or right, away from the direct sun trajectory, it start moving forward again. I did it several times, went flying around to different area then turning back facing the sun and then it happened again.

Kiind of neat finding weird scenarios!!!

Thx

It has been reported more then once here (I think even yesterday someone else again) that yes, sunlight will trigger it.

Yep, fliying into direct sunlight at certain angles is known to trigger the obstacle avoidance. It is interesting how this is an issue for the Mavic but hasn't been reported much for the P4.

You are too close to the sun. Move back 1 or 2 meters.

First glance at the OAS sensor lens, on the Mavic compared to the P4, is the how much larger the lens is in comparison.  Have to wonder if that ability to capture more light on the chip isn't creating a "lens flare" which causes an obstacle message.  Just wonder if adding a u.v. filter over the lens may make it perform a little better??? may have to experiment..

I have the same issue but flying as the sun is going down and not even facing the sun. It stops on the various lighting around town.

Same thing happened to me but it wasn't the sun, it was a cloaked ufo mothership. The mavic startled it, then suddenly it un cloaked a flew away at a high rate of speed. I had a video of the incident but I was visited by two men wearing black suits and sun glasses, they took the video then flashed a light in my eyes saying what I saw was a weather balloon.

Make sure the stickers are removed from sensors and you can fly in sport mode to shut them off

as mentioned, sport mode will defeat the obstacle avoidance and let you look directly at the sun but I assume it will not yield any useful pictures or video. So I would suggest a filter and see if that reduces it enough to prevent the issue when not in sport mode so that you can still utilize the obstacle avoidance feature.

Still waiting on those pgy nd filters. But I can duplicate this indoors with a flashlight I built. Then I'll know if just having 8 or 16x fixes this else turn off the front sensors.

Hi Ken

This false alarm is provocated by direct sun light to the front optical sensors. You can see this test when the pilot try to fly towards the sun:

So your drone will never return to home on signal loss if this occurs with RTH obstacle avoidance on.  That is why I turn this feature off during the sun set.

I had the same thing today! Return to home failed and the Mavic climbed like crazy! My battery was low! I had no idea what was happening. I think I had a heartbeat of 200bpm. I finally got it down at 3% battery.  This is a serious problem... I hope DJI will find a way to address this. Maybe different OA modes?

I guess it is your lucky day, minus the 200bpm. lol
