I just picked up a Phantom yesterday and so far I love it. It is a ton of fun to fly and super easy. I was looking around last night and it seems like a lot of people have extra batteries on hand ready to pop in. A couple questions, is it worth the extra money to buy additional batteries? Is it necessary to buy the DJI brand battery? Will your phone/tablet and controller last through multiple batteries? Thanks guys!!

Most everyone has extra batteries, some have one extra and some have 10 or 20 extra. It all depends on what you want to do with your Phantom. If one battery is fine for you then there's no need to purchase another.
But what if you go out somewhere and need lots of video, you will want a few extra batteries.
And ONLY official DJI batteries will work, so do not buy inexpensive batteries and they will not work in your aircraft.

I have 4 batteries (with one more on the way) and highly recommend getting extra batteries. I usually fly using three to four thus wanting that extra one on the days when I have extra time. Only buy DJI batteries! I also just purchase another charger so I don't have to wait to long.

I would love to meet anyone who owns ten to twenty DJI intelligent flight batteries!! ;-)
They must be in business, with their drone. Most guys have a difficult decision to acquire a few extras, but beyond half a dozen, it has already begun to get pretty darn expensive. I am only saying what's on my mind. While wishing for three more. Haha
Yes, but having a few extra intelligent flight battery packs is pretty much essential to enjoying the drone for a nice long excursion, with time in the flying field.
I have four packs now, and have bought a nice Plasticase Nanuk 945 hard side case that will hold a total of seven.
One in the drone and for the extra 6, there are separate cutout compartments to store them safely and securely. So I'm now in the market for three more packs. Haha

No, They aren't cheap, but are practically mandatory, for a great time at the flying field and parks, where ever you may take off.
I also have my second 100w charger, for my Phantom 3 Pro, humble flight kit charging requirements. Chuckles

I know people who have close to 20 Inspire batteries and 30 M600 batteries.

Ken, thanks for the happy info. Ok yes, that makes complete sense. & Making a decent living with a DJI drone would be a dream job for many here.
I am happy and feel fortunate to have my four intelligent flight packs, and certainly am looking forward to buying three more, to fill my Nanuk 945 case. You must know some very interesting drone associates. Awesome.

When I get my spare funds for more intelligent flight batteries, you will be one of the first to know. ;-)

They used to say no news is good news, but we know that to be false...
Yes, I felt incomplete, with only one, then two made me only want one more. Once three were achieved, you know the routine. I have found four to be quite adequate, but without a way to charge them with the SpYder RS-S a couple or three more would be rather awesome. Haha

It would be nice, knowing that my RC when fully charged should be just about right for seven flight batteries. Same probably goes for the iPad Air2 battery. The time aloft would be awesome. ;-)

I have 3 and a car charger. I think one more would be perfect as long as I am able to charge in the car. Think about it, if you have to drive somewhere some distance to do some video, do you really want to quit after just 20 minutes of flying?

I don't have to consider those consequences, and love having my multiple flight batteries.
It would be nice if I had the ability to charge my battery packs with my SpYder RS-S trickle charger, while on the road.
Once I get my flight kit unpacked and preflight check, prepared, I fully intend to stay a while. Haha

The one main reason I bought the Nanuk 945 was that it holds seven flight battery packs, which is my mini goal.

Yes, I think 4 is the happy medium.

Four on the floor works for me too. Haha

But a six speed, well that, is just a ridiculously awesome combination...

You never knew, 5 was lacking until you hit 6th and feel that extra power at your mercy!! ;-)

I know the ultimate opportunity will come, eventually. And I will acquire a couple more flight battery packs.

Ken, come on, Fess up bud, what is Your intelligent flight battery count? Haha

I have often wondered whether you have had any chance to get out, flying your drones, with Lume Cubes shining brightly, recently, or anytime lately. Not heard any news from you, using them, this past while. ;-)
Please post a few pics if you have... Thanks

I know that you must be extremely busy lately, with all that has been going on with DJI releases and everything.

Hopefully, when you get some free time, & the weather will cooperate,  so that you can get out and enjoy some air time.

Please share some pics or video, when it happens. I would love to see more content from you. Thanks.

Thanks Ken, that a very nice thing to hear, from you. DJI has brought a lot of happiness to the RC world, and it's been my distinct pleasure to share that joy with the world wide/global family. We are fortunate to have such an innovative, forward thinking group with DJI, who continue to amaze the world with their ever growing evolution. The flight characteristics and autonomous flight modes, are amazing, and only seem to get better with every firmware and Go app iteration. I only look forward with interest and enthusiasm, to see what can possibly be created by your team of designers, engineers and smart developers. Not to mention the fun we all share with these awesome drones and other hardware.

The future of our drones  is very bright. Particularly while attached to Lume Cubes. Haha

Please continue to amaze and delight us, while bringing happiness and memories, much joy to the RC community.
Big thanks, for your knowledge and experience within this forum too. Very much appreciated and endearing.

Certainly hope that you are doing well, and completely over your recent recovery.
