Gimball shake issue at speed (firmware, design flaw or faulty?)

Hi,

I have a mavic i recently received after waiting 2 months.. From the very first flight I noticed a weird vibration at full throttle. I have a p4 with 150h in flights and have covered over 200km with it. I've never seen anything like this on the phantom.

Is this simply a design flaw, ie limitation of the gimball motors in dealing with wind shear while cruising at high speed without the clear protective cover, a firmware problem, or perhaps my unit is faulty?

I have calibrated the rc, IMU, compass, gimball as well as applied every firmware available to date (or at least have installed all the updates the DJI GO app prompted).

I got the same problem: not only in the high speed, if you turn around or adjust the angle of gimbal it will jerk for seconds.

So we have a problem, or its normal for the mavic to do this?

This is definitely a issue but I think this happens to most of us, especially in the high relative speed to wind.

If so, hopefully they could release a new firmware to fix this....

We will see others' comments and check if this is universal or just us....

Repeat with the gimbal cover on and see if that fixes the issue ..

I have the same problem EXACTLY!! Even when I fly with next to no wind and move forward with half speed.
I was going to ask to send it in for repair but maybe that wont fix it now that I see all of these posts.
I have refreshed the firmware and re-calibrated everything.
When the weather gets better in a day or two up here in Canada I will try flying it with and without the cover on to see if it makes a difference.

For me, this problem is reproduceable even with the dome on.

Did you crash the aircraft before?
It's probably a hardware issue.
I'd suggest you to send it in for further evaluation.

DJI LA has suggested the following steps which I have sucessfully completed previously except reset the camera settings.  I have not completed the step by step actions they have suggested again, at least not yet as it is raining in my area and I would want to test immediately afterwards.  So if someone wants to do this and let me know if it helps or not that would be useful until I can complete the reset myself.

To resolve the issue kindly follow the steps that we provided below.

1. Make sure all firmware are updated.
2. Perform IMU Calibration:
Battery is greater 50%
1. Turn on RC and Connect to Mobile device.
2. Place the AC on a level surface with the arms folded.
3. Turn the AC.
4. Launch DJI Go app.
5. Go to MC settings > Advanced Settings> Sensors> IMU Calibration> Start Calibration
**FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON DJI GO APP**
6. Calibrate in 5 different directions one after another (follow the direction on DJI Go app)
NOTE:
*Make sure not to start the motors with the Combinations Sticks Command (CSC)
*IMU Calibration will fail if the aircraft is not positioned according to the instruction on DJI GO app.
*If calibration fails, restart the aircraft and calibrate the IMU again.

3. Gimbal Calibration:
Run the DJI Go App > Enter camera view > Tap on drop down menu(three dots at the upper right corner) > Select camera icon > tap Gimbal Auto Calibration.

4. Reset camera settings in your DJI Go APP.

5. Format SD Card.

6. Try to capture another video (see if the trouble still occurs).

It's never had as much as a hard landing.. the very first day I received it, that happened while it was a little bit far out and I freaked out thinking it was rolling over on its way towards the ground, only today did i realize the mavic was flying fine all along and it was just the gimball recalibrating after what seems like a short circuit.

How do I "send it in for further evaluation"

I am having the same problem. I had two flights today with consistent, rippled, shakey video. This is my 9th flight with no previous issues or crashes. Problem just began today. Will try to refresh the firmware, recalibrate IMU, and Gimbal to see if it corrects this problem. Any additional advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Video is below, sorry for the over exposure. I was playing around with the camera settings.

Did you fly in the P mode?
Also please refer to this video tutorial to check your aircraft.

Please keep us posted.

I have the same issue, but it seems not on every flight. I'll try the suggestions here in the thread first (unfortunately because of the weather I couldn't fly that much till now, but it's getting better!) and then report back when I can give more information.

Hi Mindy,

Yes, I was in P mode with 15 plus satellites. I checked the gimbal today, and it was seated correctly. I am going to reformat the SD card, reset the camera settings, perform a gimbal and IMU calibration and retry. I will keep you updated. I am wondering if elevation has anything to do with this? As i originally calibrated the AC at sea level and then took this video at 6000ft. It did automatically update the IMU, however it never asked for a compass or additional calibrations.

Has anyone successfully fixed this problem?

I've got the same gimbal shake problem
It occurs every few seconds at all speeds, but most noticeable at high speeds.
I've tried all the suggested fixes, above.
Should I open a case with support?

Thanks
Chris

I have a similar issue but really am trying to find out if it is a hardware or software issue before I go to all the trouble of sending the unit back. With the testing I have done, it seems to occur when there is a sudden movement (intended)  or a combination of movement and speed and/or wind gusts.

See here for maybe an answer to the issue when DJI reply.
