Hello Mavic Fans,

did you ever forget to remove your gimbal clamp before turning on your drone?
I did help my self with an easy trick.

I will show you some pictures what i did and I think they will explane it by it self.


My Mavic looks like this now if the gimbal clamp is fixed on the drone:

If the gimbal clamp is fixed on the drone:



For making a hole i did use a electric soldering iron and burned the hole in the middel of the gimbal clamp as you see in the last picture. You also can drill it. Do it by the way you like best and feel most comfortable with...

Now I do never forget to remove the gimbal clamp before flight.

Great idea SkyMavic. - Simple no cost solution.
I have the same as Rigging 65 for my P4 but I think your idea is better and of course no chance of the metal key ring doing damage

Here's what I did with mine:  Scotch tape doubled over at one end, with permanent red marker on the doubled-over portion, but I really wanted to do something more like a lanyard with a mini "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" flag on the end.

Just google it, they're everywhere on Amazon or eBay...or any large hobby shop. It's a popular piece of kit for all sorts of modelers.

Good idea, I'll definitely be doing something like that once I receive my Mavic because I know there will be times that I forget to remove it, checklist or not.

Did anyone do something like this too?

Amused you. may be, but  I can tell you there only two types of pilots..........

Definately the remove before flight tags are the best choice

It's like driving out to a great location and start flying, only to find you forgot your SD card; that's why I always have a spare card taped to the carry case.  People forget.... it's good habit to get into to make things fool proof....

I can think about the SD card, because of its size and that its not obvious as you can close the door of the Mavic without a card.

But taking of with the Gimbal clamp, I mean you even get a gimbal error on startup.
But everyone is different, so that was just IMHO that I find it amusing

Surely the point of this post is to avoid leaving the gimbal clamp on any occasion that the Mavic is activated. I take your point about the gimbal error warning, god knows it's happened to me on more than one occasion and I'm glad of the warning. Admittedly, to take off with the gimbal clamp still in place shows a lack of basic precautionary measures if you have missed or ignored an automated warning, anyone missing that one would probably miss a compass warning too. But anything that may help to avoid putting stress on the gimbal even for the shortest length of time has to be of great value.

Close.. I was referring to another old flying truism - probably intended for those with the "it couldn't happen to me" mindset. No one is immune.


There only two types of pilots .... 1) those who have done a wheels up landing and 2) those who are going to do a wheels up landing.  


There only two types of Mavic pilots .... 1) those who have left the gimbal clamp on and 2) those who are going to leave the gimbal clamp on at power on.

ha. interesting though. i'm actually thinking about buying a second Mavic. not to fly at the same time, but to have as a backup when working on paid jobs.

yeah, and i'd prefer to put a silly safeguard measure in place to remind me, than power on with the gimbal clamp on.  after all, if you get a gimbal overload warning, it means it's already had a go at pushing the gimbal around with the clamp on.  that can't be good.
