For my first quad, and after much research and discussion, I'd like to be the proud owner of a Mavic as soom as I get my tax return.  But I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling about it even though DJI apparently has a great reputation.

- if I place an order in the next two weeks when will I get it?

- will the DJI GO (4?) run on my Android device?  I will never own an Apple product as long as iTunes is required.  I have been geeking for a long time, I wrote my first program in 1968, and when Apple came out with the iPod I had to have one.  What a shock to find out that they did NOT support mpeg, I had to convert all of my mpegs to what!!!???  Even though I had been a champion of Apple since the Macintosh I was forever soured.  Is DJI as committed to Android as IOS?  I do understand that Android has many flavors that are further manipulated by manufacurers and providers so the task to support Android is harder.

- as a first time owner I worry about a $1000 toy flying away.  It looks like DJI has done a lot to ensure that doesn't happen, and that I won't inadvertently fly into the side of my house.

- between the YouTube video champions and this forum I can't decide.  I have had a shopping cart filled for some time, just can't push the 'Place Order' button yet.

DO IT!!    Its an absolutely AMAZING piece of kit, but you need to remember one important thing in what you have said.... the mavic pro is NOT a toy!  It needs to be respected, and it will respect you. I have done 2 flights so far, having never flown a drone before.  I have had no problems, but I have read the manual, re-read, checked, double checked, watched videos etc (you get the idea) ... and still I have taken things extremely slowly.   See my thread here:  http://forum.dji.com/thread-79490-1-1.html   Dont let bad posts you have seen put you off, its really amazing especially given it's size, just remember some fundamentals and things should be fine.

Yes you can use Android, you don't need to worry about what you read around here there are many thousands of people using Mavic with no problems, try looking at all the great videos/ photos produced by the Mavic , it's a great hobby that requires you to get involved in understanding how these aircraft operate and a chance to use your imagination to create your hearts desire, when you get started you will find yourself getting hooked on what is agreat hobby.
Dji are now offering a two week delivery which is now excellent, if you are worried spend the extra $100 for care refresh.. Good luck...

I was looking at care refresh and was confused about that. Can I get that without buying the normal care, it is a lot less expensive.

It is a toy because honey said it is. I have read the manual twice and watched enough videos that the aforementioned  honey wondered if I was watching porn;)  If I weren't serious I would buy something cheap.

Yes there are people with issues here, but are they whining or raising legitimate problems.

Thanks for your replies.

So i believe that DJI care refresh is the only thing available for the mavic at £99 (UK).  Care refresh is for the mavic and phantom 4 pro.

The 'normal' care as you put it is for the inspires, phantom 3's and phantom 4.

Hahaha, I like your thinking, if honey says it is... then it must be     Sounds like from you response that you understand its not a toy, and have done your research. Im not trying to imply anyone is stupid, just to respect the drone and take things slow and you shouldn't have many problems.

I would say that there are legitimate problems out there (its pretty new after all) but the number of people with no problems is probably many times more. You just dont tend to see them on the forums as its the normal story of, if someone has something to complain about or want to find something out, they will go on the forum.    Many issues brought up in the forum seem to be from my experience, user error for rushing into things and not understanding how the drone works and responds.

Im sure i read about someone pressing return to home indoors..... height was set to 30 metres.... I'm sure you can imagine what happened as i dont know many houses with 30m ceilings!!    said user tried to blame that the mavic malfunctioned!

I have started a list of tips of things to do first.  Figuring out return to home, and return to home height is at the top.

I ordered mine last Wednesday and got shipping confirmation yesterday. Seems like they are finally getting them out the door. Fingers crossed I actually get it this Wednesday as it's shipping from China - I'm in Houston, Texas.

Hit that button. Just do it. Yes, it can be complex: mavic, remote, app, firmware, camera....also my first drone. You need to chew through the reading  material/tutorials first, twice. And as djiKen said before a long while ago: know it's limitations.
But from that moment on it will make you smile and give you that fuzzy feeling although it's freezing outside. Smiling people are good for the planet so it doesn't only serve Your purpose!
You WILL have issues with any device, some far less complex. Don't let it discourage you.

What bothers me most are the stories of the DJI GO app crashing while in flight which seems to happen often with Android.  From what I can tell that might only be a problem if flight avoidance is off or you are in sport mode or you didn't set a return to home.

Thanks for all of the encouragement everyone.  Newegg says if I order now it will be shipped Jan 20th.  Amazon says Feb. 10th,  and BestBuy gives an option to be notified when available.  DJI says two weeks.

Time to check the mail and see if my withholding statement came so I can file my taxes.

with regards to the app crashing or lagging out... ive read stories of similar happening with the iPhone 7/7plus.  I have a 7 plus, and after 3 flights now (around an hour of flight) its not glitches even the slightest. So, take some of the stories with a pinch of salt but clearly they aren't making it up. I would guess out of 1000 phone, only 10-20 have had issues.  The forum just makes it look like more because those without issues dont tend to visit the forums.

Yep. Push the button. There is inherent risk in any big purchase. A tiny, flying 4k camera who's only leash is RF... even more. I'm only about 5 flights in on mine, and it still looks like one of Scrooge McDuck's money bags everytime it leaves the ground, but the nerves get less with each flight. I'm flying with the app on an S6 and have had no issues there. Stand on the edge or dive in? Good luck!

Hi dbasnett,
You'll love it. This is my first drone and it's superb. Don't worry about all of the complaints you read on this forum, most people don't talk about their positive experiences. I have well over 5 hours of flight time logged so far and I have had no issues at all.

As for delivery date - that's super difficult to predict. Some people waited months while others waited weeks. I'm sure DJI is getting their drone "building machine" running smoothly now.

It's a brilliant tool.

My app kept crashing too the first couple of times, different cable and none since. Just keep it close when you log the first flights to get to know it and it's behaviour. Now all i say when it leaves the surface is: if i lose it i WILL hit the order button again...maybe twice to make sure ( and in the mean time wait for mark II).

Its a lot of money,,, but then again, it can be a lot of fun,   Like any mass production, there will be a percentage that have a bad part,   That's one of the reasons the care is a good idea,   make sure you understand how to fly ,  by a 60 buck toy,  and play and play,   crash and crash again,   when you put the Mavic in the air it will pay off big time,   Read,  and Read,   follow the forum,     See what others have issues, with and  what is a operator error,   Lear from it,   But its a lot different when its your bird in the error, and you forget all the stuff you read,   It has a beginners mode,  play with it for a long time,   can not go very  far away,  and it helps you learn  how to fly,,,   again  learn to fly a cheap one,,, before you put a grand in the sky, if you have concerns,,,  But  you will love it when you get there,
