Hi Bando,

looks good. Just my humble opinion but this clip looks so so much sharper and better than your recent post with the daytime test footage. The other clip just looks a bit washed out - is it me, the processing or does the I2 just like the night time better?

All the best, Wolf

The 1/25 shutter doesn't do the footage any favors.   Makes it smeary and like old video.
Also, why H.264 and not H.265?   The extra quality would have helped a lot here.

Jim, do you really see significant quality improvement with H.265? I did several short comparison tests and - IMHO - can't see much of the difference, other than file size and ridiculously long rendering time.
Perhaps because I was experimenting with time lapse video, having stunningly detailed stills in sequence and not the 4K video footage from my X5?

Did you use the X4S or X5S?

Ehmmm just saw that you put the camera on F 1.7, so i guess it's the X5S...

Absolutely!  The main thing is to crank the quality so the file size is the same, but the quality is doubled.  I don't have one so not sure if the file size maxes out on both H.264 and H.265 at 100Mb/s but if so, definitely use this.

Also, shutter speed at double your frame rate is very important if you want a cinematic result.   1/25 certainly lets more light in but gives a videoish smearly look that is not appealing.

Is D cinelike better than D Log? Also, what do you recommend when its night and you can't keep your shutter at 2x Frame rate ? won't ISO Create a lot more noise?

Noise is pretty easy to deal with these days.  I prefer to start with a nice cinematic image and then deal with any problems such as noise.

I like LOG because it's a common starting point.  Though it's not the same LOG as professional cameras it does a pretty good job of protecting the highlights and shadows, which is really all you want.

Yeah we are waiting for our SSD's to show up so we can shoot RAW finally.  We went with H.264 merely because of the render time converting from H.265.  This was our first night test so we hope to get the settings more dialed in the future.

Shot with X5s

Nice.  Next time try the shutter at 1/50 even if you get a bit of noise.  Easy to fix in post.
