Hello All,

While shooting videos on the p4p, does the camera autofocus based on the image being shot, or do I need to keep touching the phone display to keep focusing as the drone flies? Is there a setting to enable autofocus while shooting videos? It would be a pain to keep tapping on the screen to focus, wouldnt it?
I know while taking photos you have to press the right button half way on the controller to focus and then to take a picture.

Thanks
phk

obviously that depends on what you want to film?

the p4p cam has autofocus, means you tap and focuses. i think you means contious focus. this, the p4p cam does not not have.

Really!!! How is this an upgrade over the P4??? I was perfectly happy with the P4 and it did a wonderful job on focusing. Now on the P4P, I need to keep hitting the phone screen as the drone flies to keep things in focus?? Man that really sucks :-(

You do not tap to focus when you take video. The only time you need to tap to focus is if you want to video an object that is 10 feet or closer to the camera. Try it in your house without the drone flying, you will soon understand when to use tap to focus.

yes,as p4p+ says. unless you dont have drastic distance changes you wont have to refocus. your p4 didnt focus really, since its focus is set to inf.

The reason the P4P doesn't have the focus problem that the Mavic Pro has is because the P4P camera has a large depth of view. The Mavic Pro's tiny camera has a small depth of view making focusing more of an issue.

actually: As sensor size increases, the depth of field will decrease for a given aperture

One thing to note, from a test that I just did, is if you focus on a close object (1 foot away) and then turn off the AC and RC, when you turn the AC and RC on again it retains that close focus and far away objects will be out of focus. If the infinite focus has not been changed by tapping to focus, and an object is 1 foot away from the camera when you turn on the AC and RC, the close object is out of focus and the distant objects are in focus. Another words you can't mess up the focus from having a close object in front of the camera on start up.
So we can get out of focus areal video if we had focused on a very close object (1 foot away) and then turned off the P4P and forgot that we did that tap to focus on our previous flight.
To get back to infinite focus just tap to focus on a distant object, 30 feet away or more.

What I would like is, only have the green tap to focus box appear if it is not in infinite focus. So if we tapped to focus on a close object the green box would stay, and then when we tap to focus on a distant object, the green box would disappear. Currently once you tap to focus that annoying green box stays for the entire flight.

litchi solved this nicely. it has a assignable auto center focus that will put a much thinner box in the exact middle of the screen

Makes sense. I would love that!! Hopefully DJI notices this and adds this in their next firmware upgrade.
