Hi everyone,

Because my Mavic is in for repair for a vision sensor problem I decided to buy a P4 Pro to stay in the air.
Updated it to the last FW and did a test flight. I immediately noticed how fast I lose signal on this bird. The 5.8Ghz image link freezes so often! Switching to 2.4 seems to help but at only 1500 meters the image starts getting green and the bird loses the signal. Even at less than that there are occasional freezes and the image link loses quality. With my Mavic I had to fly well over 3000 meters to get a "Weak signal" message.

Is this a common "problem" or it's just me?

I have the same problem with a brand new P4 pro.

I'm having the same problem too. Probably will return and buy a Mavic instead. They seem like they are having less problems.

The Mavic uses another technology I guess. They'll probably introduce it in the Phantom series with the Phantom 5 ;)

But...It's not a FW issue right? Anyone can confirm that this behaviour was present also on the older firmware?

I have the exact same problem but my p4p never goes further than 500m away and the camera quality comparing to what I'm seeing on YouTube are far superior with the same p4p without talking about the amount of noise at 100 iso like it's set at 1600

The P4P has the exact transmission output as the Mavic Pro plus the extra channel. So they should have the same range. From DJI:

Mavic:
2.4 GHz to 2.483 GHz
FCC:≤26 dBm
CE:≤20 dBm

P4P:
2.400 - 2.483 GHz
FCC: 26 dBm (391.1 miliwatts)
CE: 17 dBm

5.725 - 5.825 GHz
FCC: 28 dBm (630.9 milliwatts)
CE: 14 dBm

I am unfortunately agreeing with all of the above.  I am getting about 2000 feet before losing connection.  Yesterday unfortunately this caused my first crash as I was filming in an umbrella of trees and when I lost signal, it defaulted to 30 meters and return home.  It crashed into the canopy of I was filming.  Lucky the only damage was 2 broken props as it got hung in the trees.

The short range is rediculous and very overstated in the sales pitch.  I too am thinking this is not worth the money.

Yes, I am having the same problem. My phantom 3 standard never had this problem. I emailed DJI about this problem, I will let you know any feedback that I get.

Here is a video by DJI that might help, along with going in and changing your signal to 4mbps. https://youtu.be/P7M9JtfVwQE

That's what I always do to maximise signal connection. But I've recently experienced this also - and within 100 metres. Started to occur when I tried to test Active Tracking. Swapped to my P4 at that time to keep flying.
But I don't think others have reported this specific issue, so I'm keen to try the latest Firmware which I've since upgraded my P4P to. Real soon now. But I suspect it's an RC matter, not the P4P...

Valid question, but yeah - rabbit ears in right place, although - even if they weren't - in my case the P4P was only 10 or so metres away when video was breaking up badly. I'm actually thinking in my case that it's the app, as the connection was fine until I started to try to use Intelligent Flight modes...

Everyone,

I have P4P, P4P+ and Mavic and I am able to fly with all three using the same route with not much difference. Straight line of sight 250' and am averaging around 19000' before I start loosing signal.

If you guys are not in the United States, I suggest locking to the 2.n GHz band instead of selecting auto.  I base this on the power output listed in the specs. The US has double the power in the 5.n band than other countries.

From the specs the Mavic has slightly more (signal) power in Europe!
