The new hubs come with foam plugs. Can you indicate where these are used?

I believe these are used inside the propellers inside the top. Similar to the Inspire 2 version 2 props. The foam will apply some downward pressure once the props are locked into the hubs.

Hello Rich,

I purchased the 1345 LS mounting plates and after installing them I noticed that both CW propellers wiggle when they are locked onto the CW mounting plate (i've tried 4 different 1345T  CW propellers on both cw mounting plates and get the same results). I don't encounter this issue with the CCW mounting plates and propellers.  I have contacted DJI about this and I am still waiting to hear back.  When you install your mounting plates please let me know if you also encounter this.   thank you.

Hello Rich,

Thanks for your reply.  I placed the foam on all 4 of the CW propellers I tried and had the same result on both CW mounting plates.  Again, I thank you very much for your input.  I will be checking in from time to time.

Hi Ruben

That is strange because the red CW props are the ones that are slightly loose on my Inspire with the other hubs. The white CCW props are tight and you cannot get them to move after they are locked into the hubs.

I slight amount of play would most likely be normal and once the hubs are locked, I would think everything should be just fine.

Keep us posted and if you want to show us by making a video that would be great.

I noticed a little wiggle on my red props too. I added another foam insert which seems to stop it.

Also the locking mechanism on the red ones seems more positive than on the white ones. The red ones click into place when there's no prop mounted but the white ones don't have that positive "click" sound or feeling, even though the white props seem more solidly mounted with little or no wiggle in any direction.

I also noticed a little blue loctite on every crew. Is this meant to interact with the fresh glue you are supposed to add to the threaded holes or can they be uses as is with no glue I wonder?

You should definitely await those foam plugs.  I received 10 with every 2 lock set, so have extras if you need them.  Just let me know and I can send them to you.
Also, be careful to press in and insert those spring levers on the side when installing.

Myra

Hi Dario (Ruben),

The problem you encountered is relating to minor deviation in manufacturing tolerance of the 1345T props where red props are always a little bit looser than the white props. This problem was well-known to all of us since the 1345T props lock system was introduced in Oct 2015.

It seems to me that the foam insert of the new 1345LS system makes the 1345T props manufacturing tolerance issue becoming apparent - the foam insert jacked the red prop off the prop mounting plate. All the hold-down thrust imposed by the turning buckle (the retaining ring) to the props was taken up by the foam insert at the top centre of the mounting plate (rather than the designed location at the broad base surface of the mounting plate for taking the thrust in order to maintain rigidity of the prop mounting system), loosening the already loose red prop base surface grip to the mounting plate. The result - red prop wobbles and rattles.

I suggest not to use the foam insert for the Inspire 1 1345T props. (The Inspire 2 props mount system is of different design - there are slotted keys in different directions at the prop mounting surfaces for eliminating wobbling and rattling, so the foam insert inside the 1550 props has no adverse effect)

If you still find the red prop rattles without inserted foam, there are different ways to tackle the problem. Here is how I tackle the problem by using black vinyl tape (electric tape) as shim to reestablish the required tight surface grip between the base of prop and the mounting plate in the 1345T prop system. The photos at the end of this post speak for themselves.

The beauty of this method is several folds - (1) vinyl tape is elastic which automatically generates the required shim thickness when it is being compressed under locking thrust imposed by the turning buckle, (2) the vinyl tape maintains large contact area between the prop and the mounting plate, completely eliminate prop rattling when motor spins, (3) the cost is low, re-shimming is easy (no need to loosen any single screw).

The set of the 1345T prop mounting plates and props that came with my Inspire 1 Pro in Oct 2015 are still in perfect condition up to this moment. I logged more than 46 hours of flight time (more than 700km range) without replacing any of the four 1345T mounts, nor replacing any single prop since day one.

Hope this help, and hope you can fly confidently without any need of sending your Inspire 1 with 1345LS mounts back to DJI.

Henry

Hi Richard,

Those foam inserts are useful for the Inspire 2 1550 prop mounting system only. They are not only useless but also troublesome for the Inspire 1 1345LS mounting system. Please see my earlier post #61 for my views.

If I were you, I would just go ahead installing the 1345LS mounting brackets without inserting any of foam insert into the 1345T props.

Happy flying.

Just curious.  The pictures you have posted are the I-1 V-2 1345T prop locking system, not the new 1345 LS
with the external locking buckle.  Have you tried the 1345LS system without using the foam inserts?

None yet.  I skipped using the 1345T locks and went straight from the 1345 quick release to the 1345 LS because of the "non-locking" twist mechanism.  Not much flying time yet with the LS locks, but am checking for play before and after each flight.  So far, so good.

Hi Movin On,

Those are the 1345T system on my Inspire 1 Pro. I have not tried the 1345LS system yet, but the prop holding mechanism of the two systems when locked are very similar - thrust imposed by locked turning buckle on the 1345T is supposed to be taken up by the broad contact surface between the prop base and the mounting plate in order to maintain geometry.

Hi Ruben,

If you can somehow tackle the prop clearance problem, there is no need to go back to the 1345T system. The locking turning buckle with the 1345LS mounting system is wonderful and can give pilots peace of mind, knowing that prop flying off is virtually impossible.

Hello Henry,

I placed two foam inserts in the propeller and that seemed to solve the problem but I'm afraid this will put too much pressure on the locks and break them.  I saw a previous post where the locks broke during shipping.  Thanks for helping me out.  It is much appreciated.

Hi Rich

Yep, I got the foam inserts.  My order came from DJI China.

I'm divided as to whether to use the foam inserts or not.  I've got some vinyl tape as well, so I'm ready to try both solutions.

Weather is rubbish over the weekend, so I've got time to fit and then try both inserts and vinyl tape to see which is best

Glad you were finally able to get everything. My order came from DJI CA without the foam inserts...   DJI Mindy never answered me in the forum and I have been having trouble with online sales support. I am waiting for them to answer me on sending the foam propeller inserts!  I know that Henry does not seem to think we need them, but I think they have a reason for us to use the parts.

SO, even though I have the new parts, I am stuck in quick sand

Keep us posted on how it goes, the weather has not been that great here either

Just fitted my replacements.  As expected, white props are perfect with no play.  Red props had too much play.

Tried the foam inserts in the red props and found that there was still too much play.  Took out the foam inserts and tried the vinyl tape and the result was perfect.  No play whatsoever, matching the white props.

Fired up the inspire on idle just to check that all sounded OK, which it was.  Just need some decent weekend weather now to give it a fly.

For those readers in the UK, the 10p piece is a perfect size to use as the template to cut out the vinyl tape shim
My thanks to Henry for the fix
