It has long been a tactic to use fixed-wing aircraft or helicopters to try and spot sharks in Australia, but the cost of doing so is enormous. The aircraft are usually fitted with sirens to warn people in the water to get out. The use of drones would be far less expensive and potentially you would be able to cover more areas, but the major problem would be the duration of flight and also adding some sort of warning system to the drone.
