2 questions because tech support could not answer them for me.

1. Does anyone know the dimentions of the case that the Inspire 2 ships with (in inches).
2. Does anyone know of a Pelican or Storm case that the Inspire 2 will slip right into when going on a plane.

I tried doing searches here on the forum but was not able to find what I needed so if there is a posting out there I beg for your forgiveness.

They are different dimensions but thank you for your information just the same.  Hoping to tap into someone that already has an Inspire 2 Case that can provide me with the dimensions of the Manufactures provided case.

According to B&H the dimensions for the Inspire 2 Factory Case is 25.5" x 12.5" x 3.3" (L x W x H).  I'm finding it hard to believe that the external hight dimensions of the factory case is 3.3".  I'm hoping someone can chime in with this information.  DJI Technical Support could not provide this information.

I could be wrong, because I'm not close to it now,
but the dimensions of the factory case are +- 60cmX58cmX28cm (LXWXH)
that in inches are 24"X23"X11" approximately..

Perfect .... I used the conversion and came up with 23 5/8" x 22 53/64" x 11 1/32" so your measurements are right on!  Thank you very very much! Looks like the Pelican 1640 or the Pelican 1690 are the best fits to place the DJI Inspire 2 Case inside.

Andre .... one quick question about the Pelican 1640.  Do you know what your total weight is with the 1640 and the Inspire 2 together?  Trying to see if I can keep the weight under 50 lbs.  The 1640 weighs 34lbs.  If I carry on my batteries and Gimbal, I trying to find out what the Gross weight would be with the 1640 case.  Would you possibly be able to answer this?

Hi!

I chose the 1640 because it is square and the factory case attached fine inside it with 2 cm of foam. In addition, at the top I screwed this organiser https://www.pelishop.es/pelicase ... -pelicase-1640.html for all additional items. About the weight i can't say now, will come back home on Monday and then will weight. But a lot, a lot! With two remotes, ipods, a bunch of batteries, chargers and other stuff.. Uff.. (everything is fit fine at the organizer, although it looks rough for me

Thank you very much for getting back to me.  Because I am going to getting this case so that I can check the Inspire 2 on the airline, I will wind up removing the batteries and gimbal and putting that in my carry on.  I would be very much interested in your total weight so I can determine if it is possible to keep this case under 50lbs (airline weight limits) w/o surcharges.

Also, don't forget that total dimension L+W+H must be less than 60" in order to avoid excess penalty fees...

ScooterC5.  Thank you so much for reminding me about the total division restriction.  When I ordered my case this weekend, I ordered it in the Travel Mode configuration instead of the Landing Mode configuration.  This made a big difference on the dimensions of the case.  Much appreciated.

Yes, I can confirm, oversize baggage fees at the airport are no fun when you travel with drones as much as I do.

Hi again,

The weight of the box filled completely is 33 kilos
when i put over all that possible (batteries, two remotes, chargers, iPads, camera, two lenses and so on) then i have 23 kilos that is exactly for aircraft limits. But i'm afraid that this case is much bigger with three dimensions that they permitted..

US bag handlers must be very rough. I've traveled with the stock I2 case as I'm sure others have. Put 'Fragile' tags and so far, no problems.

This equates to 54.33 Inches in total dimensions so that would have no troubles getting through TSA for checking.  Which case are you using again?

Great tip on the Fragile tags. I seem to recall some technical specific tags to apply when I was early on in my Telecomm years. Something along the lines of "Sensitive Electrical Equipment" or the like helped to stress, or label as a target, for the handler(s).

I am looking forward to the GPC case that we ordered at work to arrive next week. Different model Inspire though.

I would be afraid to check that case.   This is why I ordered to Go Professional (Travel Version) Case.  It is about 4" in total width too big.  Hopefully the airline will not give me a hard time.

You are NOT allowed to check in batteries. DON'T ever do that.

Actually you're allowed to check the batteries that are installed in the Inspire.  Installed batteries are the only ones you're allowed to check.  So you can legally check two Inspire 2 batteries as long as they're installed in the drone.

Actually you're allowed to check the batteries that are installed in the Inspire.  Installed batteries are the only ones you're allowed to check.  So you can legally check two Inspire 2 batteries as long as they're installed in the drone.

This rule doesn't make sense to be honest. Given that Lithium batteries have a low but finite risk of catching fire spontaneously, why would it be safer if the battery was installed compared to if it were not ?- since the former is unequivocally, an open circuit and the latter, true only if there is no malfunction.

Should a fire erupt, wouldn't it be safer if it were in the cabin and detected by many humans, rather in a hold which is not accessible to witnesses and more importantly, agents who could control a fire?

I believe the current rules were set up to allow the air-shipping of equipment like laptops, tablets and phones that have batteries integrated in their chassis. Do recall that 2 years back, some poor quality personal mobility devices with installed batteries caught fure in flight. Its the latter fly-by-night manufacturers that have tarnished the market and have resulted in tightened regulations.

Overall, the risk of a spontaneous fire from a well conditioned new Li battery that is not at full charge is very very low. Rule-makers are not perfect nor are they always logical and business concerns sometimes color the way rules are made.

Hope this clarifies

On some airlines, fragile cargo is put in a different section on the aircraft.

The advantage of the original case is that it is very light. If you are on the move, lugging a large heavy albeit more secure case is not fun.

I am a super honest person,  but I found it crazy that I needed "media" ID to get the media rate.... like why else would I have 8 peli 1620s.  So I decided to try and make an ID, and in the process of getting the laminates I found several of these ID companies.

Does it work...absolutely positively yes,  I have the one with the mag strip and bar code...works every time.
