OK, this is something I have been wanting to try for ages now.  I perched myself ontop of a hill and then got my mate to drive my P4 10kms away and pull over on the side of the road.

We spoke to each other on the phone while he powered on the P4 and I tried to acquire signal with the drone.  At first we couldn't get a connection and then after holding the drone above his head I was able to get connection and see video.

I quickly launched while he was holding it above his head and tried to get some altitude so I could get a stronger signal.   It went perfectly and I was able to fly my drone back to me in a straight line 10km away.

The only thing you need to make sure of is setting the home point back to the controller otherwise half way it will want to turn around and go back.

Here is the video.

Nice one, parabolic reflectors? I think I saw a glimpse of them?
Where in Victoria was this?

It's an amazing range test, but you always want to be careful.

And of course, make sure that your hilltop spot is less than 500 metres above launch point.

Yes, those copper reflective slip on ones.  That was between Kurrumburra and Inverloch. Beautiful part of the country.

Actually I didn't think of that.  Maybe I will try flying it down instead of up next time.

I like it, nice run. Did you have video feed for the whole trip?

Perfect place for fun like that, although a big search area if it dropped out of the sky

Yep, it was perfect. Got a good feed even before I took off.  The plan was to land it next to that road on the left if it looked like I wasn't going to make it.

Well plenty of places to land if he had needed to.   You can reset the homepoint in the APP by clicking on the person icon.

Yup you may try that then find the RTH is sufficient to give you a nice cruise home without running out of battery.   I was doing a flight on my P3S got to 3km distance after meandering around taking in the sights.  App gives me 52% low battery warning.  I had also been flying into a strong headwind of 19mph.

So I did the RTH but full throttle and got back to home point with 35% battery remaining.  Cruised home with that tail win at 65kmh.  I wonder what speeds I would have hit if I was in sports mode lol.

Nice video I enjoyed it.

was wondering how you made it back when you said you had a low battery and was only halfway back but at the end you showed you still had 41% battery, flying in sport mode lucky you didn't have a cross wind blowing you off course.

It was a one way trip if you bothered to read the thread or watch the video

Perhaps you might read his post again, he got it right. He was not saying it was a two way trip.

I did watch the video a couple of times,it's a nice video. I know it was a one way trip, a 10km trip and at 5km (halfway)  got a low battery warning. didn't know what the settings are but I get a low battery at 30% left and it landed from that halfway point with 41%. I was surprised at what the low battery setting was. Maybe you didn't really read my post.   I think it was a great flight with nice views.
