Incident
Saturday, MARCH 11 2017
County Rd S-18-37, St George, SC 29477, USA
I was using my Mavic to capture B-roll footage for a friend's student film. The craft had been flying in Tripod Mode for almost 15 minutes, when it suddenly accelerated forward and dove into the swamp. I uploaded the flight log to Phantom Help Log Viewer and it shows that at 14 min 50.3 seconds, the craft went into Force Landing.

I have been flying my Mavic since January, about 50 flights, and have never had any issues like this when flying low to the ground or just above water. However, I have read on the forums that there have been other Mavic and Phantom pilots that have experienced this issue before. At the time of the incident, the firmware was up to date, being done so on Thursday, March 9. Seeing as how this has been a problem with other craft and across platforms, I would hope that DJI would be able to offer a replacement.
Given instructions, I will return my Mavic as it was able to be recovered after, about 45 minutes in the swamp. And as a testament to the amazing engineering and durability of the Mavic, when it was pulled from the murk, the lights were still on and the motors were still trying to spin. I pulled the SD card from it and all of the footage was there, including underwater footage! The completely submerged Mavic continued to record for almost 20 minutes before it stopped… about 9 minutes of which is in the crash video.

Hi Redboomer,  sorry to hear about your crash, looked at your logs not a lot showing on them , when I read your post first, I expected you might have had a problem with your battery, but all battery cells looked fine,
If you were running critical low it would have returned home, if you lost gps and you were running out of battery this would set off forced landing . So I think this is one for dji to sort out, I hope it works out for you, keep us posted and let us know the outcome.

Good luck..

If you sync your flight records and provide your email used with the GO app I will review the flight to see if I see anything unusual. It's a pretty robust little aircraft isn't it. I'm surprised it stayed powered on and recording for that long.

How do I sync the flight logs?

On the opening page of your dji app, one with the picture of Mavic , bottom left hand corner icon looks like a paper plane, click it will bring up all your flights , select your flight, in the top right hand corner icon of cloud click and sync your flight to the cloud, and dji can now review it..
