Which comes first? The RC or the Inspire. There is a lot of conflicting advice. Perhaps it makes no difference...since I assume you turn on and upgrade each one separately.

In the DJI instructions, the "smart battery" is mentioned as being upgraded with "AC". What about other batteries? Do they need to have access to the update package as well when installed in the AC

I ended up doing that as well ..as the aircraft locked up on the first attempt to load the FW..I loaded it again let it sit for an hour and success....
Was a bit worried for a min or two there
First flight today was rock solid I was picking up sat connections in my basement they where coming in that strong... Plus this thing is like 2 times faster than it used to be

This is totally awesome. Thank a ton for sharing. I'm sure some people won't need this, but for me who has had the Inspire for about 4 hours, this is a MASSIVE help. Much appreciated! ( I also read through the official guide and it stated not to do the update while flying... Really?_

.bin stands for 'binary'. DJI should tell users to put the .bin file in the top level directory of the SD card meaning that the file name is seen when the SD card is clicked. The file should NOT be nested in a folder. The current distribution model archives the binary file with the help file which few people seem to read. They already have the .pdf on their website. Only a few computer users know what 'root directory' means.

Thanks for your thrust.

Hey Dundee, did the new firmware update correct the possibility of the motors shutting down if you use extreme stick movement while flying? I was hoping they would eliminate the kill feature by using the stick positions during flight!

Alas, I still have a question on the updating of the TX:

1. red light came on, then the beeps
2. Then the blue light for about 10 minutes
3. a couple more beeps- maybe a long and a couple of short ones... wasn't listening for it as I was on the phone
4. but now it's back on the red light. Never got to blue- or if it did, I didn't see it.

Does this seem correct?

I disagree, it needs to be deactivated during flight. I am not a beginner and been flying for 45 years model aircraft and full-size. It is a poetical problem that could occur during complex maneuvers with wind affecting the aircraft.

Maybe these 2 flowcharts can help some members.

Dundee, just got my inspire yesterday. I managed to find the time to set it up, charge batteries and remotes. I put the iPhone 6 plus on the master RC and powered on the bird. It went through the normal questions and then came the red triangles. Remote needs update and aircraft. Okie dokie, I set to work trying to figure out how to do it without a SD card reader as the closest one is 200 km return trip from me. I tried to do the usb to camera thing and it looked as though it might work, alas no it did not. Oh I forgot to mention, the spare battery was fully charged and did turn the craft on but a warning came on, with the other two update warnings, that hardware malfunction centre bus something or other pooched. The power showed 0volts on all cells and the low power warning came on. The aircraft would not spin a prop. The other battery worked fine? Any ideas? I guess I need to drive to town and get a usb sd card reader. Farc mate

Ok, I'll give it another try this weekend. I have to drive all the way to Kamloops to get a usb sd card thingy. May as well buy an iPad mini while I'm at it. Do you have to read the card and delete the text file before you use a second battery to update it?

hey Dundee, I followed your flowchart, on my inspire it wont upgrade, tried it lots of times with no ...

Its not because you see 'failed', that it's not upgraded.
Does it fly ? (test without propellers)
If so, then good chance its upgraded.

We will stay in the dark as long as DJI is not more clear on how things work.
In the mean while, i try to find out myself by thinking logic as a programmer.

Tips: Look for other indications to if your bird is updated from .16 to .17
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tip1
New firmware .17 shows message 'no signal' when you start simulator (IOS) with gimbal/camera not connected.Misleading as it is connected and all works. But its a .17 bug
Not so in .16. There all looks normal.
So seeing 'no signal' but working indicates to me that at least you have a partial upgrade on yr bird.

Tip2
In .17 Mc Settings on the app show Set maximum flight altitude (10-500M)
In .16 Mc Settings on the app show Set maximum flight altitude (0-500M)

Many members seem to not correctly see the correct flow of this update, although the bird is updated.

Interesting.

I used the DJI-supplied SD card with a card reader to update the TX.

It updated the TX successfully, and the text file shows "Success", but it seems to have corrupted everything else on the SD.
Might be good to remind people to get Videos and Pics OFF the SD before updating firmware. Mine are gone, but there was nothing I really cared about.

Its not because you see 'failed', that it's not upgraded.
Does it fly ? (test without propellers)

Thx Dundee,   the inspire will not link to my transmitter,  tried to bind it with no luck,   I called dji and they said it would have to be sent in, they did send me a call pickup tag and are paying the freight, they said there was a lot of inspires doing the same thing, 4 to 6 weeks to repair.

Thx for trying to help!

Dundee, thank you so much.  I found when setting up my second controller I had to reformat my SD card and re-install the update for it to acknowledge and start the process.  Perhaps this may help others that are having an issue with getting the controller to start it's beeping.  Once again, fantastic flow chart and thanks a ton from a newbie trying to do the correct things.

Thanks,
