It's good to see all is well. I've had the same "oh no!" moment when I first tested out my first DIY rig at a distance with the same relieving result.  

From what I can see, you could have gotten RC interference from a combination of things. One aspect is that there were copious amounts of trees that could be blocking the signal a bit along with the orientation of your antennas (they appeared a bit low at the end of the video). A lot of home WiFi's do run on a 2.4 GHz frequency, so that could have attributed to potentially as well.

yup - when i was packing it away I thought to myself, hmn don't remember folding them away - they were in crossed and against the RC unit duh! At least I don't have a faulty drone...just faulty operator. But yes we have 2.4Ghz and I thing higher bandwidth (5.8?) wifi network at the house too.

Haha.   Yes distance should improve greatly with the antennas oriented properly.
