Is it a problem to run 3 batteries through the Phantom, one after the other?

I'm a new flyer and I will have 3 or more batteries for the Phantom2 Vision+ v.3
Will over-heating of the quad be a problem if I were to exhaust 3 batteries in a row in an hour plus of flying?
(Though I might get 'exhausted' before the Phantom does...)
Thanks.

same here.  although i wont lie that i usually give my phantom a 3 to 5 min rest in bewteen batteries to allow ESCs, motors and such to cool off a bit.  might not be necessary (and i usually dont do it for as long in rather cold weather) but i will be doing it in the 90-100F summer weather.  but that could very easily be me just being overly cautious and doing something that isnt entirely necessary.

Usually after flying one of my planes for 20 minutes, I need the rest more than the plane does. I am sure it will be true with Phantom.

I have the same problem. The only time I need to take a break from flying is when my iPone 6 Plus starts to cook.

I run three batteries through it all the time and have no issues. I just ordered a fourth. More on the way.

I have a 5 year warranty on my Phantom and batteries from the the dealer that I bought my Phantom off.  You do have to pay a small amount for the extended warranty but they also do it on a battery by battery basis. So overall not too expensive as long as they do honour the warranty. And they pay shipping both ways.

Given the Australian Consumer protection laws i'm not going to have a problem. This is a great deal.

In theory, it would be possible to run one battery after another with a couple minutes of rest.

In reality, things are different. Conditions (ambient temperature and humidity, etc.) figure into it. Despite being mass produced, each Phantom is slightly different in terms of the exact quality of the solder joints, mounting of the wire harnesses etc.

What I am saying is that many Phantoms probably have "defect" in them right from the factory. These could be in the assembly or even more likely in certain electronic parts. It might be that the same Phantom would last almost forever if only flown 30 minutes (2 batts) at each outing, but the same quad may fail if 5 batteries are run through it in a row.

I guess what I am saying is that the percentage chances of finding a weak component may go up as more heat is generated by multiple flights in a row. There is no way of putting a number on this - but I am in total agreement that 3 batteries with a 5 minute cool down in between doesn't  - or shouldn't - push the machine.

Since a lot of my flying is fairly "stealth" (grabbing some pics and videos and then leaving). I don't run into this particular problem!

I don't think multiple batteries and heat generation is a real concern unless you are in very hot conditions to start with.
In fact heating up letting cool and then heating again is more likely to stress poor connections than running at a constant temperature.

From a real world perspective you have no more risk with multiple runs in reasonable conditions than is runs spaced out in time.
Cooling on multicopters  is extremely good compared to most craft.  Motor in other applications (helicopters, cars ) run at substantially higher temperatures (150 - 180C) without damage.  Phantom motors seldom get above 80C due to the direct cooling.

The esc run fairly cool and have cooling from the vents.  The rest of the electronics do not typically get very hot at all.
I do check my motors for heating since this can be a indicator of bearing failure etc.  But if I feel a motor getting worm address that as a maintenance issue not as a inherent issue that could cause failure.

Joe, you didn't address the WiFi modules in the Phantom which is/was known for getting very hot. In fact, DJI modified the design in the newest version to allow more cooling! Many Phantom owners have reported failure of this unit.
Example thread:
http://forum.dji.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=4672

You are correct, of course,  in terms of heating up and cooling down stressing a component.

In the real world we are dealing with, most P2V+ owners do not have V3.0.
V3.0 may have fixed this one problem - they changed the ventilation and heat sinking of the WiFi module.

This is yet another case where it may depend on the exact model.  The OP mentions they are a new flyer, so hopefully they have the V3.0, which should fix that particular heat problem. If, as you say, all the other electronics run cool...then things should be OK.

I haven't had any issue with WiFi on the P2V+ V2 but the original question was for a V3 anyway.
Of course it always depends on the actual copter - but if one finds an issue with a component overheating after 1 or 2 flights -get it fixed. On a hot day it could happen in one flight and cause a safety issue.  Some appropriately place vent holes perhaps?
The issue with the WiFi  affected video but not basic flight capability.

When testing Ultimate Flight I've run as many as 4 batteries in a row with no breaks in between; no issues seen thought it does appear to get satellite counts quicker on subsequent flights.
