anyone shares more tips on the settings? besides the yellow square, sometimes I also see a yellow "focus" icon popup on the screen, anyone knows what is it?

Yes, when camera is in in auto mode you may press on the screen at various places and it will adjust to that area and its lighting condition.  It is a very nice feature when you need it on the fly.
